It's crazy that he probably feels smart, instead of incomprehensibly evil.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 32 points 6 months ago

Evil and intelligence are not mutually exclusive.

For example: Kissinger.

I will never not be happy when thinking about his lake of ice and fire afterlife. If anyone on earth deserves pain and suffering, it's pretty much every right winged piece of shit

He is the embodiment of every mortal sin in a literal golden calf

[-] DancingBear@midwest.social 1 points 6 months ago

You believe in an afterlife

[-] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 4 points 6 months ago

Kinda maybe. I don't put a whole lot of thought into it.

the difference between smart evil and dumb evil is dumb evil doesn't know it, smart evil knows it and doesn't care.

"Mickey and Mallory know the difference between right and wrong.... they just don't give a damn."

Organized crime.

Actually it's legal so not crime. Just organized legal thievery and exploitation.

[-] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

If illegal means “has consequences” then if you’re rich enough, everything is legal.

[-] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 9 points 6 months ago

There's a limit. The French remind us there is a limit.

[-] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 7 points 6 months ago

The Americans remind us their limit is much further than that of the French.

[-] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

No one's stopping you from going outside and doing something about it.

[-] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

I’m not in the US, so that’d be a trick. I’m also not keen on being imprisoned because some moron border agent found all my hateful writings about Trump and his country.

Anyway, I hope they find that limit one day. Doesn’t seem anywhere in sight yet though.

Big shocker. Inside trading is now the least of evils (diddling kids, rape, murder, violating the constitution)

[-] DancingBear@midwest.social 2 points 6 months ago

Nah you have it backwards, this is worse than all that stuff, if you diddle kids you get deported to Israel.

Congressman Rob Bresnahan, a Pennsylvania Republican who campaigned on banning stock trading by lawmakers only to make at least 626 stock trades since taking office in January, was under scrutiny Monday for a particular sale he made just before he voted for the largest Medicaid cut in US history.

Also, Centene is involved in the Desantis and his wife's charity money laundering and kickbacks from Medicaid. The GOP, where they can do anything they want.

As DeSantis administration officials scrambled last year to craft a Medicaid overbilling settlement that diverted millions to the Hope Florida Foundation, lawyers for healthcare contractor Centene and the Florida Attorney General’s Office tried to distance their clients from the agreement, a trove of newly released records shows.

Over 22 days in September, then-Chief Deputy Attorney General John Guard repeatedly removed references to his office in drafts of the settlement passed among negotiators.

Centene’s lawyers inserted language emphasizing that the company was “directed by the state” to donate $10 million of its $67 million settlement to the foundation. The attorneys insisted that Florida’s Office of Inspector General or attorney general be mentioned in the agreement.

Hope Florida charity paid for hotel rooms, perks for DeSantis officials

It wasn't the first time the Hope Florida Foundation, which benefits a program spearheaded by Florida first lady Casey DeSantis, has failed to file key paperwork. In April, its board president told state lawmakers that the charity had not filed any tax returns, created a budget or conducted audits required by law.

The charity is under investigation after diverting $10 million from a settlement with the state's largest Medicaid contractor to a pair of nonprofits that then gave millions to a political committee.

Reports at the time was that some of that money they routed into propaganda to convince people to not vote for legalization of recreational marijuana. (Medical is legal there)

It failed with 55.9% of the population voting for it to pass. Had the vote happened between 1845 and 2006, it would have passed. But Florida changed the requirements for legislation to pass to 60% instead of 50 in 2006. Which that legislation passed with....less than 60% of the vote, this would not have gone into effect if it had to pass its own rules.

Had Desantis not preached against it, and used government funds to manipulate public opinion, that legislation would have still likely passed.

this is explicitly allowed for congresscritters. they are legally allowed to insider trade.. because.. they said so.

if youre in congress and not cashing in on the fake-valuations that are the stock market, youre just not trying.

They also have an exception to do robocalls via phones even if someone is on the national Do Not Call list.

https://www.fcc.gov/rules-political-campaign-calls-and-texts

While campaign calls and texts are exempt from the National Do Not Call Registry requirements, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) contains specific rules they must follow.

In general, robocalls and robotexts to mobile phones require prior consent. Political robocalls to landlines are allowed without prior consent, but there are exceptions as detailed below. In addition, political robocalls made to residential landline phones without the prior consent of the called party are limited to no more than three calls within any consecutive 30-day period.

I remember someone posting here about how some gun store owner in Ohio had figured this out and ran for office, sending out text messages to promote his gun store as part of his campaign. I imagine that he wasn't primarily interested in the political office.

Obviously he "campaigned on banning stock trading" because he knew he wouldn't be able to resist doing it.

It should be a requirement that all elected congresspeople put their stocks in trust before they take their oaths and their seats.

[-] DancingBear@midwest.social 2 points 6 months ago

At this point they shouldn’t be able to own stock outside of a mutual fund or basic retirement account. They should have to sell all of it.

[-] pinheadednightmare@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

Just because the general public didn’t know what they were voting on, doesn’t mean they didn’t. Who’s the fucking sheep now
