Replace the current israel-cool with this image.

This concept image could also be refined and doesn't have to be submitted as is, if it really is needed, I can also erase the remnant of the blue star of david and just have the red triangle with the fire with the (also religiously significant blue bars so we are going to be called antisemites anyway no matter what).

note: If someone has a better, higher quality rendition of this image (and it's done in a libre image manipulation tool catgirl-hiss ) then feel free to post it in the comments including if it's without the red downwards triangle since that should also be considered.

Also the padding on this image is wild (sorry GNU wilbur), it should most likely be resized to the proper dimensions when it goes through.

EDIT:

and others are all great emojis, but this one of indigenous Hawaiian Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole is deeply offensive to his legacy and is a mistake to even be included.

If this isn't accepted, IZ should still be removed from :israel:cool: (maybe even just renamed to something better like :stay-mad-iz:)

IZ should no longer be tied to the genocidal entity.

About antisemitism accusations, those don't really work the way it used to in October 2023, I think that's the first time I saw Hexbear thread on this.

Clearly, burning the English flag england-cool is not the same as ISIS (or Israel) destroying Churches and killing Christians.

I'm in agreement. I missed the first struggle session, but I assume it didn't get into the fact that (at least according to NATOpedia), the star was first adopted as a Zionist symbol and then as a symbol for Judaism generally (not the other way around). Also, we should dispel the false notion that the star is a religious symbol. My understanding is that it may have appeared from time to time in Jewish texts and Jewish ornamentation, but was never considered a sacred symbol in Judaism (ironically meaning you can put it on the floor, throw it in the regular garbage, burn it, etc. unlike, for example, texts containing the name of god).

No desecration of religious imagery. This includes things like burning Israeli/Saudi flag emojis...If you can modify the flags while still accurately representing countries without including said imagery, it is much preferred.

That's worth noting, I saw someone else say that person may be the one who designed the burning flag emojis in the first place? So if it was a personal decision by a single Jewish user in their own capacity as a designer that is their personal opinion but doesn't represent Jews at large and shouldn't necessarily set the site's precedent if another user wants to make the flag and the rest of the site wants to use it.

We polled trans users and Neuro diverse users on different things, we could poll Jewish users on this or just the user base at large

Yeah WhyEsEff has actually made a preponderance of the emojis overall and does good work for the site, I don't think she should catch any flak for this because she still left the door open for someone else to come up with the emoji. But that's also means I don't think there's an actual sitewide rule against posting images of burning Israel flags, it was just accepted as a personal decision and left at that, at the time.

Personally I would prefer to have a normal :israel—cool:. The zionist scum would love to hide behind their religion but if they want to be a political entity then the symbols of that entity are fair game. In my opinion, slapping Jewish symbols on the genocidal apartheid colony does infinitely more harm to these symbols and to the Jewish people as a whole than any anti-genocide activists could ever dream of doing.

This is not a hill I want to die on. If Jewish users or people who know more about this than me disagrees I'm not going to make a struggle session out of it

I would have preferred personally to have the regular flag reproduced, but I think covering it partially with a downwards red triangle still keeps the edge somewhat (I also elected not to cover/erase the entire star so it feels more like graffiti rather than a more derivative creation/imitation).

I'd also prefer to have a thread where the site admins give either explicit approval or explicit denial so we can stop having struggle threads over it every so often.

Hmm, it feels like this one could be used as evidence of blood libel (thinking as a liberal here), it's also too on the nose (thinking as an emoji enjoyer) and busy. Also the skull emoji doesn't have a consistent design across platforms and has been used more ironically as a term of feeling embarrassed or shocked rather than signifying death itself.

See, so I did some digging around, and while it's 100% true that they do have a history of hostility, among their alts (or at least what I believe to be their alts, I'm not infallible here) it does appear like there was a clear instance of the same mod telling them to kill themselves and it wasn't addressed.

Yeah not into that, also wasn't into that mod recently mentioning being "good friends" with an anti vaxxer anarchist food not bombs founder in a different thread. I'm against having personal beefs with strangers online and find that most users here who I'm not a big fan of also have good comments and posts sometimes. Most of the time that mod seems fine but they and a lot of users here get into a very online "touch grass and/or kill yourself" pattern where they are simultaneously the biggest toucher of grass yet also extremely online and don't seem to catch the irony

A good submission is:

Visually clear at a small size (120 pixel width) [This does not mean upload the small image, this means upload the source image or full size cutout but test prior.]
Have a transparent background to the greatest degree possible. This online tool can remove many backgrounds.
Display a clear emotion or purpose
If including text, should be properly sized to be readable
"Evergreen" and not something that will be irrelevant after the next news cycle
Formatted in PNG, GIF, or SVG to make our file optimization cycles easier. If svg initially, send svg in a seperately hosted link to WhyEssEff. Same with gif, as we render them as mp4 IIRC.
Have proposed title as the title of the post, nothing more, nothing less.
Post body should include a suggested category and keywords.
Max height of 3 times the width.
