Back to Melbs today.
I will miss my bestie:
She just sits there and judges my taste in music. Just outside where my studio / speakers are. Makes me wonder if she's just after food or just curious.
Apparently they have good hearing but only down to maybe 500hz or so. I like to think she's a bass head.
Today her rave choon was Im Wandel der Zeit
Also she's not afraid of fire. When I was burning some native grass yesterday she rocked up and stood there w/ me not fazed at all.
A beautiful friendship indeed! Love that she hung out with you while you were burning stuff.
Um, quite a few Aussie birds have adapted to fire - and hang around the ashes after a bushfire has passed to peck up cooked insects etc. Especially the raptors. Bronzewing hawks in particular will congregate around bushfires to harvest burned prey. Would NOT surprise me if maggies did something similar.
That's amazing that's she's not afraid of fire.
Maybe she trusts you and since you were not scared neither was she.
Zucchini slice with some Aldi gratin tonight woo!
No flamethrower required!
Decided to take a maintenance day today (got like 50+ days of sick leave accrued).
Bit of coffee, bit of weed, bit of people watching.
Wish the weather was a bit better though.
Hey does anyone here have an air fryer? Thinking about buying one because the Minipeelers would find it more manageable to cook some small foods for themselves rather than lighting the gas oven we have (piezo is broken so it has to be lit with a bamboo skewer). What brand do you have, and is it a good one/do you like it? I'm tending towards the ones that look like a little oven that you can see into (less heat loss when opening to see in a basket, methinks). Any thoughts?
Air fryer rambles (spoiler for length)

I got an el cheapo Anko one from Kmart about a year ago. No glass door, very basic controls with some "pre-set" buttons that are quite quite useless. Does one person just fine. I mostly use it for cooking frozen fish. I have done hard boiled eggs in it too and they worked just fine and was much easier than boiling them. I've had no success with veg other than sliced and oiled carrots in tinfoil, but that works excellently with lots of nice carrotty juice generated. I have tried to cook small joints in it with mixed results. It does pork with crispy crackling very well indeed as long as the top is fairly level. Not particularly easy to clean - I find I need to attend to it as soon as it cools down or any fat really clings to the basket and is a pain to remove. Yes it's non-stick coated but that's degrading already so I use a small tray, ramekins or tinfoil/parchment bundles with the food inside and that works very well indeed.
There's a bigger two basket one at work (Phillips) that my boss uses for steaks, chops etc. as he's madly keto at present. Its quite easy to clean and he says it cooks well. I don't use it myself as I prefer a different kind of lunch.
Basically an air fryer is a very small oven. For single or maybe two serves of a single item I reckon it justifies not turning on the big oven and heating a lot of air for no real purpose. For cooking anything large like a chicken or full size cakes or tray bakes etc. you really do need the big oven to get good convected heat. The biggest problem I found with the air fryer was the top down heat so the top of things cooked much faster than the bottom. Turning the contents is very necessary and it takes a few tries to get the timing right.
Buying another? I'd go for easy clean over glass door I reckon. And a longer timer - mine is 15 mins max and that just isn't long enough if cooking at lower temperatures.
I have one, gifted to me from my dad from Aldi years ago.
It’s my go to since my oven broke.
Does most of what I want to eat pretty well, you might want to invest into a larger one if you want to make multiple serves of things.
The Phillips brand used to be talked about highly.
I don't have one but I know kids.
They should be ok as long as they use mitts all the time and remember to switch it off when done. And does it have a timer? So they don't let things get burnt.
That's a good idea, to get one with a shutoff timer of some kind. Some of them have got heaps of features and some are really simple. I'm having trouble deciding what to get because there are so many out there.
There’s actually a couple of bands that interest me at Good Things 2025 festival. I have always wanted to see a GWAR live set and Refused are iconic.
I'd like to see Tool, Garbage and GWAR but don't really know any of the rest of the lineup. I reckon they'll be $220+ ticket prices.
I saw GWAR at a soundwave when Oderus was still alive. It was good and they were fun, but I'd love to catch a set by them in a smaller venue where you might actually get sprayed with something
I want to be showered in various liquids haha
Would love to see refused
and Tool of course!
Holy shit I'm definitely going then!!!!
Weezer
I think I might take a year off next year and do some work / travel. I know there's this whole thing to gtfo of education and into the workforce, but I need a break from studying. It's been way too many years.
Now to find a job that will let me take a few weeks of unpaid leave!
Ewww… Instagram is introducing a new thing where they can show your location?
And it’s claimed that location sharing is off by default but I’m seeing someone saying that’s not always the case. So it doesn’t hurt to check.
Facebook tagging and check-ins were bad enough. Fuck this timeline man
I've signed up for a free soil test at the new place. When it's not raining I will collect the samples and will do a pH test too. I'm interested to have a closer look at the soil, from what I can see it is a bit gravelly, but hopefully less sandy than where I was. I think I'd rather have clay than sand.
On my walk down the beach I found another mako shark spiral egg. I just leave them there and take a photo. They are weird looking things.
Throat really sore this morning. I swear if I've picked up another illness, it's only been a few weeks since the last one! Praying it just goes away.
Figured out I think why I was getting pain on my toe.
I think it was because my boots or socks were pushing up against the loose toenail and thus the pain.
I bought a little gel sleeve that’s capped off for my toe and I’ll try that out.
Other option is to put light dressing to buffer it and use tape or Band-Aid to keep it tied on.
I pray something works.
I'm going to miss this workplace, I am not going to miss this job.
Glad I can get some guitar practice during another pointless all hands meeting lol
Bras suck
I've gained weight (unsurprisingly) and had to buy some new bras and holy shit, I have never been so uncomfortable in a bra in my life. I'm about to take it off at my desk, I can't stand wearing this fucking thing.
A bad bra is a bad bad thing.
Have you used the A Bra That Fits calculator? I've never really worn bras in my life because of sensory issues, but usually wear 'crop top bras' instead. I cannot stand jeans, short tops, shirring, it's that bad.
After using that calculator, I got a couple of bras that fit when they were on sale. The Berlei ones without wire are quite good, and I also got some with wire for more fitted tops.
When I cbf wearing a bra, which is most days, I wear something similar to these.
That's what I wear. Super comfy.
Damn… can you go somewhere and get fitted?
spoiler
I’m also finding it really hard to find good options
This isn’t a weird passive aggressive dig or anything but maybe try maternity bras. They can have features that are more comfortable like a more adjustable band, wire free, and sometimes wider straps.
May I plug the A Bra That Fits calculator!! I got a size that I wouldn't even think to try on, and it fit more or less perfectly. Also bra extenders are great.
The big department stores sometimes have a bra fitter on staff and you can book an appointment for a fitting. Also some lingerie shops like Bendon etc. Yes, it's a specialised trade.
I'm serious about getting a professional fitter to find your size. Apparently more than half of all women of all ages are wearing the wrong size/shape/cup size. I got a fitting done years ago, and it made a huuuuuuge difference in comfort and support. Yes it costs but it's worth it - if only to relieve back pain and neck pain and tension headaches.
Could tell some stories from when I worked with a bloke who was a travelling salesman in ladies lingerie back in the 1950s - hoo boy did he have some yarns to tell. Specially about when the ladies of the illegal brothels in mining towns were escorted by their pimps to Georges or Myers to stock up on professional outfits ...
I think I will take it easy today, just take a walk, do some admin, some very light chores, read a book, I might even have a nap
Oh Tuesday. Fuck right off lol
🤓 Today at the beach I found a curious object , it may be a fossil rhodolith, a kind of algae stone. There is a fossil bed in Newport, near where I was walking/collecting, so it may have washed out from the land or washed up from the sea bed.
Other possibility is a botryoidal haematite nodule. It's heavy.
I took a photo.
Where's the rain? I drove to work because water is supposed to fall from the sky today
the rain is in Williamtown/Seaholme where I went for a walk 🫥
It's meant to rain today, so no bike yet. Also, I think the Illness Symptoms are not abating, so it might get worse.
punches knog in the face for their shitty scout design
time for beach walk 😊
Back to reality, bleh!
Ope there goes gravity
Ope there goes Rabbit he choked he's so mad
But he won't give up that easy no he won't have it
He knows his whole back's to these ropes, it don't matter
He's dope, he knows that, but he's broke, he's so stagnant
He knows when he goes back to his mobile home that's when it's
Back to the lab again, yo this old rhapsody
Better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him
I thought this in my head!
