The repair costs are part of the estimated $45 million price tag for the upcoming parade.

The cost to repair Washington, D.C., streets after the upcoming military parade celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary could cost as much as $16 million, according to U.S. military officials.

That’s part of an estimated $45 million total cost for the June 14 military parade, which coincides with Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. The cost estimates have fluctuated as planning continues.

The parade itself will include about 130 vehicles, including 28 M1A1 tanks, 28 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, 28 Stryker armored fighting vehicles and a number of vehicles towing artillery launchers. More than 50 helicopters will also participate in an “extensive flyover” in the nation’s capital.

The event will also bring more than 9,000 soldiers from around the country to Washington, about 7,000 of whom will march in the parade itself. The event will also include at least eight Army bands, and some troops will ride on the nearly three dozen horses and two mules expected to march as part of a historical section of the parade.

Is he 11 years old? What kind of loser bitch asks for a parade on their birthday? Or like, at all?

Name one honorable person that has requested a parade in their honor.

He's wanted one ever since he was invited to the French défilé by Macron during his first term. For whatever reason dictators love this shit (I'm not saying Macron is one, just that it made a huge impression on Trump).

Because it's some "tough guy" shit to parade the thousands of people and millions of taxpayers dollars you can order to sacrifice for your decisions.

Also in France, getting invited to the official tribunes is an entire little game of influence and power. Mfs wouldn't even invite my grandmother once as the widow of a WW2 soldier and Légion d'Honneur recipient, just so she could remember her husband one last time, because all the seats were taken by rich assholes and various other kinds of Macron's sycophants.

    Trump isn't being given anything.

He is ordering the military to do the parade. This isn't even about the military.

Trump is doing this to show his followers that he owns the libs. That he is powerful. Because, in a twisted sense, he is.

He is forcing DC to put on the parade. He's forcing the government to pay for it. He's forcing the residents to deal with the consequences.

    This is about power projection.

    We are in fascism times.

People or governments that go through a totalitarian regime don't realize they're in one until full control is taken away from everyone. Recent example Venezuela and Hugo Chavez. Willingly they (congress) gave Hugo Chavez the government complete and total power. Venezuela used to have a Congress and judiciary branch believe it or not.

I mean... We're in fascism times. If you have the power to do something, you can do many subtle things or one big one before they replace you

This would be a dumb hill to die on... As stupid and wasteful as it is, no one (should) actually die from it

Nobody is ever going to forget that Trump is a ridiculous clown though. This just reinforces that Trump is a narcistic buffoon, and gives DC residents a great opportunity to show up with Baby Trump and Clown Trump pictures.

US be like: sorry, we simply have no money for bike lanes or sidewalk repairs :(

To be fair, 16 million would only get you a few dozen kilometers of bike lane and only if its the shitty painted on ones. If you wanna build actual height difference protected bike lanes, 16 million is basically nothing.

But also this parade will probably cost upwards of 100 million if you actually included all the invisible secondary costs.

I think it really depends. My city was able to build about two miles (IIRC) of fully separated multi-use path along a busy arterial for I wanna say about $4 million. The beauty, of course, is that well constructed bike and pedestrian paths can last a lifetime, where car infra needs constant replacing, so it's a really good investment.

American military helicopters seem to have a hard enough time not crashing into things when there's only one of them flying around

And that's just the infrastructure, never mind the untold damage it costs to the country.

ICE will detain so much people on June 14th and I dont mean as I wish it happens, but they are detaining even protesters, I bet I got you thinking I am talking about Palestine protests but no it was people declining to stop blocking the road from ICE driving by because of what they are doing

They have no accountability either in court (not like disrespecting orders is giving them any stop to this if no one is enforcing them to do so)

ICE did not respond to CBS News New York's questions about how many people were detained by the agency and why.

They only talk to media when they know they wont be fact-checked or interrupted from spitting nonsense

Just build some cardboard armor around humvees to look like Abrams and he won’t know the difference, driving 1 MBT around on pavement in a city is fucking stupid (they are so heavy the tracks chew up road pavement like dirt), a couple dozen is so so dumb

Ah here we go, not a problem at all just line the streets with metal, in summer in a swamp 👍

Think he'll rebuild the roads from pavement to concrete like maybe some Germans did?
