Just a normal day in the US of A. Add it to the collection.

Bass Pro Shop Pyramid store

This is a shout out to an extremely nearsighted architect more than anything, I suppose technically the architects that designed this were from ancient Egypt but any way, this wasn't built to be a Bass pro shop, it was originally going to be an arena but it turned out that pyramids are the least efficient shape for optimizing space, so they had to alter their plans, it wasn't a good shape for this, it wasn't a good shape for the Las Vegas hotel and it wasn't a good tomb for the dead, they were only able to get one pharaoh in all that space.

Oh yeah? Well, how's the quality of their copper?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I'm not sure the tombs were built for efficiency.

"How big does it need to be?"

"Well, it's an inefficient shape for optimizing space, so let's just go with really fucking big"

You cant tell me that people could build these glass pyramids. Must be aliens.

Hah, I did not know about this place. I thought it was a photoshop of the Luxor in Vegas. Yup this is dumb.

The Luxor is far more stupid, say what you will but at least the Bass Pro Shop pyramid hasn't been turned into a giant Dorito. Also it wasn't built as a Bass Pro Shop, they bought it after it stopped being an arena which in all honestly is better. At the very least its still a bit of interesting architecture rather than a standard Walmart or whatever would've alternatively filled the lot.

Apparently, they moved the blocks on sliders, not rollers. Rollers would just dig on the sand and impede any movement.

Also, the Egyptians didn't used bullwhips. They just paid the workers nicely.

Now, about the meme, I can't find a flaw.

No one knows how they built them exactly still. https://youtu.be/vJucA4FOTSI

It's been a decade since people found the HR manual to how to size your teams for one of them. Just let that old speculation fade away to history.

The pyramids weren't built by slave labor

[-] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago

Just as we are TECHNICALLY not slaves under capitalism, right?

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

I mean to say, the metaphor is apt, but historically inaccurate

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

As is most people's understanding of history in general, unfortunately

On a related note, the largest Lenin monument in the world is in Volgograd.

Vladimir Lenin Monument and the Volga-Don Canal

In addition to the humongous Mother-Russia Calls Monument on Mamaev Kurgan, Volgograd also boasts another of the largest statues in existence: the world’s largest Lenin statue. Here Lenin stands 27 metres high on a 30-metre pedestal, appearing above the trees at the start of the Volga-Don Canal overlooking the water and towering above even the nearby lighthouse. It alone is definitely worth the trip to the southern tip of the city to see it.

Located close to the statue is Lock No. 1 of the Volga-Don Canal. The canal was opened in 1952 running 101 kilometres and connecting the Volga with the Don. Construction began before the outbreak of the Second World War and largely made use of forced labourers from the Gulag, including some German prisoners of war. Some Gulag inmates were spurred on to work on the project by the scheme where one day working on this back-backing project would equal two or three days off their sentence, should they survive the experience that is.

In the same year as the canal was opened a massive statue of Stalin, measuring 24 metres in height, was unveiled at the Volga end of the canal in the south of Volgograd - then known as Stalingrad. However this original statue was demolished in 1961 during the period of De-Stalinisation. The pedestal was left empty until the unveiling of the giant Lenin statue in 1973. The statue took four years to construct and employed the same technology as the Mother-Russia Calls monument.

IRL baldy is wagering with friends if the dead body pyramid can be bigger.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

As if he would deign to actually be in the same hot desert conditions as the workers.

It's his attempt to show that he's human. Much like cuckberg, he isn't
