Don't blame me, I didn't vote for that orange shit stain.

It’s unpopular with those living in the US as well.

I mean... As an American, that's certainly a valid question. The short answer is that the modern American political two-party system has become the biggest shitshow in American history. For a longer explanation, I saw a video on a Canadian PeerTube instance that really explains the situation better than I could.

Here you go.

We’re pretty dumb and ignorant. Our education system is awful and incredibly inequitable (funded by local property tax so only nice areas have adequately funded schools). I recently read that like half the country reads below a 6th grade level. And we have an overwhelming level of right wing disinformation coming from “news” outlets like FOX, OAN, etc.

Even with all that, about 1/3 of the country loves Trump like he’s a god, 1/3 hates him like he’s the devil and 1/3 is completely tuned out of politics. Shit is about to get real bad here and no one will be able to ignore the economic disaster so I think those numbers will change in the next few months.

Half of adults reat at or below the 6th grade level.

That doesn't mean they don't have an expansive vocabulary, it means they can infer but not abstract.

So, it's bad if my daughter suffers they may ibfer from their own suffering, but women in general and possibly ways their daughter may suffer elude them.

  • voter apathy
  • he didn’t win by as many votes as the largest election against him (2020)
  • he was never popular among all people, but is among voting people
  • electoral college doesn’t make sense

We have a broken election system here in the states, but not a popular president.

And what passes for the lefty party ran with genocide on their back and couldnt pull that off.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 20 hours ago (3 children)

The Democratic Party is at best center-right but with their enablement of genocide and crack down on protesters they are probably just as fascist as Republicans.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Republicans however also: deport people with a legal right to be in the country, including citizens, without due process. Want to destroy all progress made on issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. Wish to reduce women's rights, some including voting rights. Want to abolish the separation between church and state.

Even if there is a close resemblance between the two parties on Gaza, but there are plenty of other issues where they are still incomparable, and ignoring these differences and calling both parties equally bad does not help.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 19 hours ago

The Democratic Party does have a progressive wing, but you still have plenty of conservative Democrats who will break rank and vote with Republicans on various issues including women’s rights, immigration and climate change.

Here’s a recent example: Why 35 House Democrats Joined Republicans Against a Major Climate Policy

I don’t have much to add or suggest other than trying to get more progressives to win primaries. But even then sometimes we end up with people like Fetterman who ran as a progressive but now votes with Trump.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Don't get me wrong the democratic party is shit, but I don't recall paramilitary thugs dragging people off the streets and disappearing them under Biden or Obama.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

The Republican Party has always been worse, but it shouldn’t be the yardstick we judge the Democratic Party by. Otherwise the worse the Republican Party gets overtime the worse the Democratic Party will get too, since the only requirement will be for them to be better than the Republicans and not to be actually good.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 18 hours ago

I dont disagree with that, but you said "probably just as fascist as republicans" which is obviously not true as, again, only one party is using paramilitary violence to target unwanted groups and political opponents.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

continuing to claim this in the face of what's currently occurring in the US is not simply naive, it's downright idiotic

[–] [email protected] 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Is it because some people are more equal than others?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 hours ago

Tf are you on about?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And the voters who support Palestine sure did a good job keeping the worst of two options out.

Ohhh well, at this rate the Palestinian question, likely won’t be an issue next election.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How’s this one… From the river to the sea Palestine will be just a string of resorts for you and me!

I never tried to hedge anything. I Like the 2/3rds solution. Every time Hamas or Palestine hurts someone they loose 2/3rds of their land!

Is this you a week ago? Im not suprised a zionist doesn't want genocide to be a voting issue. It would be better if we just pretended it wasn't happening so your buddies can keep sending missle straight into refugee tents.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 day ago

Lol, you seem miffed. Like I struck close to a truth you refuse to acknowledge...

Well, enjoy your “non-vote” and “no support” pitch. This is the result you choose.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think most people don't realize they are mad about the repercussions of a somewhat "unchecked" capitalist system and point the blame (rightfully) at "insiders" and "elites" who they believe are enriching themselves at our expense. The Reich wing media also works wonders at directing "class conflict" into "social conflict" blaming immigrants and people who aren't the same as them for all of our issues...

Where they fall flat is voting for the absolute embodiment of capitalist greed and somehow believe that because he isn't an "insider" that means he gives a shit about them...

Propaganda is a hell of a drug.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

I forget where I read it originally, but I think a lot about "You hate every piece of capitalism but don't connect the dots to see the big picture"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Simple answer is that the majority of Americans still either completely agree with him, or they just hate the Dems so badly they'd vote for a potato before they vote for anyone with a D next to their name.

That or we continue entertaining the January 6 type of fantasy where we believe the entire thing was rigged.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

I think it was both and the apathy of American voters who didn’t agree.

[–] [email protected] 43 points 1 day ago

I hate living in the headlines of Plague Inc.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Uh... The US has been globally unpopular for as long as I've been alive.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, but not as much as they are now. That really says something.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago

True enough, but that's mostly because they alienated the people who didn't already hate America, like Europeans who thought they were too special (and white) to get the Uncle Sam boot and Chinese who didn't care as long as they got to export cheap goods. Trump's rampage, weirdly enough, has failed to make the people who already hate America hate it more.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

USians become aware of how unpopular the US is, now that they agree with that sentiment

Edit: It me, I hate it here

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

How could it have gotten worse? Is it negative now?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

How the fuck is Russia going UP?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Europe and North America are only 13% of the world population. Most of the rest of the world view the war in Ukraine differently, and are more concerned with wars elsewhere like in Palestine where the West is “the bad guy”.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

Yes it certainly does seem that no one cares about any other thing than crushing the west at the moment. Which won’t save any of the Muslims in China! It will not save anyone in Pakistan. There are actually several other decades long genocides going on at the moment but if you ask anybody they have no idea.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

possibly due to the coups in Africa?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Tankies aren't spreading their crap for nothing lol

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ehh, good point. Humorously, a lot of those Tankies are Yankees. Which I will never understand. Setting fire to your own house to please your neighbor who doesn’t give a shit about you?

Let’s coin a new word. YankTank? TankYank?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

yankies? as opposed to yankees

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That does make the most sense but I feel you’d be fending off people trying to correct your spelling. YankieTank? It needs to be obvious on first glance.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

TankieYankie sounds extra mocking..?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

TankieYanking? Hehehe
