I doubt he's engaged in anything. The man's brain is gone. He said that legitimately believed the Supreme Court ruled in his favor on Abrego Garcia because his staff told him so, and I believe him. He doesn't have the cognitive function to keep up with what's happening, so he's just doing what Stephen Miller tells him to do.

There are only three times in American history, that I can find, that habeas corpus was suspended. The civil war, WWII, and right after 9/11. It should be noted that SCOTUS overturned the suspension after 9/11 when Bush wanted to detain and send people to Guantanamo without due process. So, there's some precedent as to when and how, the question will be, as it is ever increasingly, what is SCOTUS gonna do?

Ooohhhh, those corrupt judges are at it again! /s

There is no law. Plan accordingly.

My entire life I've heard Americans lecture everyone how superior the US is because of all their rights, freedoms and "real democracy". The freest country in the world! Look at the constitution and the bill of rights - the most democratic country EVER! Where are those Americans now?

Bootlicking.

Protective custody

[–] [email protected] 80 points 3 days ago

Suspending the writ of habeas corpus would take Trump’s efforts even farther – allowing the government to detain migrants without giving them the opportunity to challenge that detention, essentially letting the administration detain people without providing justification.

Also:

With the reinterpretation of "protective custody" (Schutzhaft) in 1933, police power became independent of judicial controls. In Nazi terminology, protective custody meant the arrest—without judicial review—of real and potential opponents of the regime. "Protective custody" prisoners were not confined within the normal prison system but in concentration camps under the exclusive authority of the SS

Just saying.

You are to be dragged away and disappeaed, just accept it already. What's the damn problem? /s

Edit: apparently I needed to add /s

[–] [email protected] 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

you don't need to add an /s please. don't let a single downvote influence what you have to say. wear your sarcasm.

yup. if you're on my frequency, it's just in time for summer. and it's going to be a wild summer.

this is an old play (refined), bud they'd never even attempt this if they didn't think it could work this time.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Your last line is incorrect. They are trying this now because it’s the LAST opportunity.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i get what you're saying, but i don't think i agree. it might look that way in the short term for american republicans, but it's definitely not the end of the story for this type of ideology.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This was the last chance for the last hurrah of white supremacy before the world is too brown for them to be able to do this again.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

yeah, that's a very hopeful perspective.. who still has all the money? who still controls the world? who still decides who gets just enough to keep them from revolting?

edit - and who has the means and will definitely destroy the world before it happens?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You’re acting like they have any clue what they’re doing. They don’t. They’re winging this too. And there’s less white people every day. This was a fascist movement borne of desperation.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

if you want other people to see your replies, you need to reconsider the voting button. it's for visibility - it shouldn't be used solely because you disagree with a comment.

and you're not really adding anything here, either. yes, you're right. they're winging it. they're idiots. and there ARE less white people every day. but this isn't a "fascist movement borne of desperation" insomuch as a fascist movement borne of opportunity.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think you’re the one who can’t see the whole picture. I’m downvoting your opinion, because I think it lacks perspective.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

see though? that's why you should at least reserve judgement. we're having a discussion, not flaming each other. i totally see your point. i'm trying to add the fact that the guys with the nukes might just not care as much as you think about "desperation". the fully-armed militias in the USA aren't really champing at the bit right now to stand up for the constitution.

just like you, i have but one perspective. it might not completely align with yours sometimes, but this isn't a popularity contest. for what it's worth, i vote up anything that contributes to the discussion.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s so weird I feel like whatever point we may have had to our conversation was completely destroyed by your endless need to not be downvoted

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

sorry, i'm stuck on the voting thing. i really want lemmy to be better than reddit, and the "dislike/downvote" thing has bugged the shit out of me since around 2008. i'll drop it now, i'm sorry.

going back to what's important, the "winging it" part is the most horrifying. they didn't even read the fucking book - they're just taking from directions from the bald, evil, horrible miller that actually did.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don’t be horrified, be comforted. The fascists of the past would be so embarrassed by this shit show

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i don't think you're factoring in the past 30 years of anti-education sentiment in the usa. i don't wonder about the fascists of the past. i wonder about the result we're all seeing + 2020 covid kids and horrified is definitely the right word

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s a small generation compared the the millennials and gen X who are the most educated generations in history.

You don’t worry about the right things. Stop talking shit about the younger generations. All the election numbers were false.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

please don't for a second think that i'm talking shit about the next generations. if anything, i feel overly compelled to try to help them.

i don't think i'm worrying about the wrong things. i worry that one day i'll find myself coding in an ER and the nurse will try to feed me bees because that's what chatgpt said and she doesn't know any better.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We’re already past that. If insurance wants you to have bees you will have bees.

We’re about to see an unprecedented break down in society. I’d recommend if you have two good brain cells to rub together, and are this frustrated already, get the fuck out of America. I’m leaving because I refuse to contribute to what is happening here. You sound young and able- go somewhere you can be confident your hard work actually matters. This isn’t and won’t be the country for that for a good ten, fifteen, maybe twenty years. Don’t waste your time in a bad place.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i do indeed have at least two brain cells, and these three (i'm being generous) brain cells all live in canada, where they were born. and we don't want you. you need to sort your shit, not flee.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

That’s neither how history nor your country works. I already have a Canadian PR so “sorry”. Maybe I overestimated your intelligence.
