Don't choose the yellow one. It gets tricky to know when the pee is about to overflow.

You can see the camera's auto white balance changes depending on the colour of the bag.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

If you want nice warm hues in your portraits, always pose with a Walmart shopping bag

As a German definitely white. Since yellow is only acceptable for plastic packaging. And bathroom junk is usually tampons and stuff.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh I thought we were choosing wall colour

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

But the yellow is just so much more sophisticated...

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago

I never thought I'd put these words together...but Walmart is the classier choice.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago

I think it’s black and blue.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

With Amazon, you can get rid of the can as well. Cardboard boxes make excellent, disposable wastebaskets.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've actually been using the box my computer case came in for recycling for a little over a year now. It just works!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Omg I did the same lol. Sort of. It's not my primary one but it has recycling in it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

You can use them for most types of furniture too!

Got to love Lemmy. I see so many goofy posts like these and then everyone proceeds to take it way too seriously and even start to give advice.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago

Most of us have a touch of the 'tism.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They banned plastic grocery bags in my state to cut down on plastic waste... Now I have to buy more plastic "trash" bags to throw away...

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm convinced that "Big Trash Bag" has been lobbying for these kinds of laws lol

I'm sure they do a little for the climate, but does nothing to tackle the actual big polluters (i.e. big corporations)

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Really gotta wonder how America hasn't invented a corn-based, low-cost, durable polymer that breaks down in typical landfills.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm sure it has been. Just like a million other world changing inventions that have been captured/killed by the powers that be

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or just killed by reality. Just because it has been (hypothetically) invented doesn't mean that it's easy or even possible to manufacture at a large scale and/or at a reasonable price.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sure thing bud. Just ask those people that have threatened industries like big oil with inventions in the past, if they've alive to tell it. Or even perhaps people like Nikola Tesla. Stay woke my lemming. Not all conspiracy theories are crazy

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Sure. Like I just said Tesla. There are plenty more examples of companies trying to stop progress. Look what they're doing right now with EV and solar in the US. That's backed by big $ from lobbyist. Or if you wanna talk about the topic at hand, petrol companies have recently projected that in the next 20 years, over 95% of their profits from oil will be made from plastic products, such as grocery store bags and single use products. Hell, grocery stores profit majorly from single use plastics. In 2020 oil companies invested an additional $400 billion into upgrading plastic manufacturing. You can bet your ass that a large majority of that is going to lobby politicians, and manufacturers to follow the status quo, including blocking biodegradables, like corn based bags.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Nothing is stopping you from doing it

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Seems like they need to make a wastebasket that fits the paper sacks?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 day ago

Something like this would probably work well:

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm in California and they did the same thing but we still get plastic bags. They're reusable and $0.10 each.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Our bill passed last October or something that will ban all plastic bags in California, including recycled bags, making it paper only for no more than $0.10. Takes effect January 1st

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Damn I haven't heard about that yet. I think that's good news though, honestly we don't need these plastic bags. Even at $0.10 each I have a cabinet full of them. I use them as often as I remember to but I def have more than necessary. I already pay the same for plastic bottles, cans, etc... although I get my money back on those when I recycle, as you know. Paper bags just seem easy more sustainable.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

For sure. It's definitely okay by me. I have a bunch saved up myself, and quite a few of the cheap reusables. But my go to bags are from IKEA in Burbank. They have a great selection of bags that fold down nicely, and are very portable. The ones I use the most were only like $5 a piece too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I noticed that Walmart has started using the cheap shitty ones again. Haven't looked to see if they claim to be reusable but they're hardly durable enough for the first go.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I haven't been to Walmart in so long I can't actually recall. I know my local Bodega has shitty bags that they also charge for...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

My stare does it too, but there's still plenty of other things that come in paper or plastic bags that I use for garbage i.e. takeout, etc that I've still got the same box of trash bags I bought like 8 years ago. Very rarely to I use an actual trash bag.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You could use none and just dump it into the larger trash bag in the kitchen when it fills up. Every so often, wash it out in the bathtub.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

I use the bathroom garbage to empty the litterboxes. Ain't no way i am raw dogging that

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I don't wear ties.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm actually worried these days that I won't be able to do this one day soon.

The grocery stores I use have stopped using these bags and now I don't collect them anymore. Up until a year ago I used to complain about it all, I'd collect boxes and boxes of this crap year after year. I used to joke with my friends that I could insulate my garage with this stuff. Now my stash is dwindling as the months go by. I keep emptying box after box of what were once endless stashes of grocery bags.

What will happen when I run out? :(

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You'll have to start recycling and composting.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idk if kitty litter or dental floss fits into either of those categories

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I'm pretty sure biodegradable/compostable kitty litter is a thing. As for the floss, switch to a water pik, I guess?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is this like a northern state thing?

The only places I know that don’t do bags are Sprouts (charges 0.10) and Natural Grocers (they give you leftover boxes if you ask.)

I’ve got a bunch, but can’t share - hoping to process them into yarn.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 23 hours ago

Northern Ontario .... although we have a lot in common with the northern states

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

I'm gonna have to go with choice "A". The Walmart bag is slightly larger than the DG bag, so it will fit in the bin better.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I prefer the generic ones that say "Thank You"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

you're gonna need to go two-tone. even tossing just an empty tp tube into either runs the risk of the bag breaking.
