It’s for this reason I am certain that the most intelligent people are not members of Mensa.

As a former Mensa member, I always tell people who are considering it that the biggest problem with Mensa, is that Mensa is full of people who want to be in Mensa.

I’ve meet Mensa members. Im not sure I wanna be in that group. Not all of them, but A LOT of them.

Here’s a hint. You’ve heard of gaydar right. It’s like a separate sense that some gay people claim they have in being able to detect if others are of a similar fashion? (Yes I understand this could viewed as insensitive but my old gay friends still use it and it’s to illustrate a point so bear with me). Well smart people have it too. Granted I’m not genius level or anything but I can tell when others are what I would consider highly intelligent or necessarily aren’t. Don’t get me wrong, less intelligent people can be interesting AF, but you can usually tell. I sure as shit don’t need a membership to a group I have to pay to join to prove it. If I feel the need to join Mensa to prove I’m intelligent, doesn’t that sorta defeat the purpose?

I've always imagined it being the Venn diagram intersection of high IQ and arrogance, is that correct?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

I wish I were intelligent, does this mean I am a good fit for Mensa?

One of my profs signed their emailss with just their initials. But not fancy, just the two letters in lowercase with a dot afterwards.

[-] [email protected] 19 points 3 months ago

A dot afterwards? Now that's fancy!

[-] [email protected] 30 points 3 months ago

Where's the, "my email address in the from field will do", fall on this? 😂

[-] [email protected] 15 points 3 months ago

with what little email i send these days, this is me. i come from the era where every byte mattered, and i tend to keep mails as short, direct and to the point as i can.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Ikr, it’s literally my full name@company

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Then a Mac user forwards your email to someone and your email header doesn't show your email address in the forward and nobody down the line knows who sent the original email.

[-] [email protected] 18 points 3 months ago

I'm a nobody who cares - I'm important address me by my full name and position - You know who I am <------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->

I use Dr. and make a point to, but only because it reminds me of a character from TV which tickles my funny bone.

That, and I tell them "Just Professor is fine, too, it makes me feel like I'm in Fire Emblem Three Houses."

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

That fact that you mention Three Houses make me think you mention that because you wanna bang your students.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

I mean, or murder the ones who won't have a tea party with me.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

The number of titles I use depends hugely on how much I like someone. More means less.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Man sometimes I think what even is the point of stating my name, it's right there in my email address

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

not everyone has email adress with same user id as email (maybe is taken up or something(yes i know most people do get mail of choice, and in case of clash, people add some birth date or year, but still))

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Cause when your email gets forwarded, the header doesn't always go with it.

I've had to start putting my email address in my signature due to people not being able to contact me cause of that.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

I absolutely adore my great great grand boss (that’s 4 levels above me… like vice provost level) but dang that email signature is like a page and a half…

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

I appreciate if they list honorifics, because when I'm including them in a letter, I always have to play the "are they a P.E.?" game
