I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think these people are alive. They were never going to let a Senator from the opposition in for a photo-op but giving zero proof of life feels less like a middle finger and more like they can't.

Very likely. MS-13 accusations are taken very seriously in the Northern Triangle. Many people have horrific stories about them and I’ve had friends I went to school with end up joining them as teenagers. I doubt he was ordered to be killed, but I do believe that the guards fucked him up bad. They’re the only ones who can actually do shit at CECOT because the prisoners are heavily monitored and given nothing that could be seen as a weapon like utensils.

I don't even think it's this. They get off on brutality. They'll just stick with the story that he deserved it because he was a gang member. The Israelis have already demonstrated how far you can go by calling any journalist, paramedic, or child you murder a militant, against overwhelming evidence. I think the chance of that happening is zero. He's either already dead or they'll kill him. They'll keep lying and say stuff like he's "in custody". But Trump is Trump. I bet in a couple years he can't help bragging that they killed him just because they could.
