Today I'm also signing an executive order to instruct the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to begin preparing the 30,000 person migrant facility at Guantanamo Bay. Most people don't even know about it.

Some of them are so bad we don't even trust the other countries to hold them because we don't want them coming back. We're going to send them out to Guantanamo. This will double our capacity immediately. It's a tough place to get out of. Today's signings bring us one step closer to eradicating the scourge of migrant crimes in our communities once and for all.

9 days into the burger Reich and we have concentration camps.

[-] coeliacmccarthy@hexbear.net 105 points 1 year ago

the concentration camps are on the border. constitutional law does not even apply at guantanamo: it's a death camp

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 76 points 1 year ago

Theres been camps at the border since at least Obama. This will be a death camp, which will be novel.

[-] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 48 points 1 year ago

And in 2028 we'll have to hear why closing the death camps is radical tankieism

[-] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 33 points 1 year ago

In 2028 the Dems will win on the power of "wouldn't you like the chaos to stop, at least domestically?" 2032 is going to be the year of "the tankies are really showing their privilege when they demand that the death camps be closed."

But think of the economy!

2007 rhetoric: "Let's close Guantanamo"

2025 rhetoric: "Let's expand Guantanamo"

Maybe some based Cubans will liberate the camp and push those American pigs into the sea

it's time for Cuba to get Guantanamo Bay back, the pressure from fellow Latino people being held there might be too much to ignore

If only they could create a rebellion from within with those 30,000+... Guantanamo would be easy to take

[-] dustcommie@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Based Americans would be better, wouldn't want to put a bigger target on Cuba

b ... bu .... BUT TRUMP trump-anguish IT'S THE DANG CHEETO cheeto-man

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 56 points 1 year ago

That's fucking bleak. Isn't that a massive expansion of gitmo? I thought there barely weren't any interred there. This seems like a great excuse to mess more with Cuba too

[-] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 54 points 1 year ago

China it's time to step up and give Cuba a nuke

[-] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 46 points 1 year ago

What will Cuba do with this news? I know theyre not in an ideal position to storm the base or whatever but I'm sure the occupation was at least begrudgingly accepted as long as it continued to wind down

Double capacity? Hold on Gitmo had a 15k person capacity? Holy shit.

The larger they make it. The harder it will be to close becauae of the money involved.

The detention capacity of Guantanamo Bay currently is around 800. I think Trump was saying that the new 30,000 capacity detention center would double the detention capacity of ICE.

And then the US said to Germany, "We too, can do Auschwitz."

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
