[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

Shockingly racist if you don't know anything about him beforehand.

[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Life was so much simpler when he kept his fucking mouth shut and let engineers do cool things.

[-] orrk@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

everyone has a few slaves in their emerald mines, why are you getting upset?

[-] Gerudo@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 73 points 1 year ago

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 61 points 1 year ago

Sort of makes the guy he's paying an employee if you think about it.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 year ago

We were already on “a list” by being on Lemmy, now you’re double on a list

(You know if the admins/mods are chill with asking a hypothetical like that? I’m a wimp so I’d go North Korea style free speech but I bet the powers that be on Lemmy are made of stronger stuff)

[-] galoisghost@aussie.zone 5 points 1 year ago

No you misunderstand. I mean like in Super Mario Kart when Luigi is in the lead and you’re like “that’s so annoying “ so you pull the move that makes him spin out and you get to take over as leader.

Just gonna leave this here for no particular reason...Famous billionaires who lost everything: Elizabeth Holmes, Bernie Madoff, Allen Stanford, Eike Batista, Sean Quinn, Björgólfur Gudmundsson https://247wallst.com/special-report/2023/08/23/famous-billionaires-who-lost-everything/

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 34 points 1 year ago

As much as I'd like to believe this... they probably have offshore tax haven accounts with money squirreled away in them.

[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago
[-] gramie@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

The thing is, Bernie stole money from rich people. That's the unforgivable sin.

[-] abolishredditnaw@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago

Twitter is a shithole for right wing extremism now and using it is basically just willingly ruining your mental health

[-] rational_lib@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

There's still a lot of Democratic politicians sadly Xitting about how Elon has too much power while helping keep his media platform afloat while the boosted right wing blue checkmarks get all the top replies.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 33 points 1 year ago

Well, not that shocked.

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 29 points 1 year ago
[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Not that that's a real one, but they didn't have metal dice back when I used to game and now they do and it gives me a sad that I have no current need of metal dice because they're cool!

[-] Tin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I used to game with a guy who spent an absurd amount of money on a d20 made of meteorite.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

That's going way too far, but I have gone into game stores to browse and seen this sort of stuff and it's so cool:

[-] TheOakTree@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

I know these aren't made of metal, but you should check out the youtube channel Hedron Gemworks, they make some gorgeous d20s out of gems and minerals.

[-] gramie@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

It's worth pointing out that Elon left South Africa in 1988, before Mandela was released and apartheid was abolished. He would have experienced the full brunt of the racism (on the good side, of course).

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

The current oligarchs are doing what they failed to do almost 90 years ago when Roosevelt was in charge: establish corporate fascism. And I'm afraid they might succeed at it this time.

[-] stringere@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

I believe you're referring to the Business Plot.
The Business Plot, also called the Wall Street Putsch[1] and the White House Putsch, was a political conspiracy in 1933, in the United States, to overthrow the government of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and install Smedley Butler as dictator.[2][3] Butler, a retired Marine Corps major general, testified under oath that wealthy businessmen were plotting to create a fascist veterans' organization with him as its leader and use it in a coup d'état to overthrow Roosevelt.

Something about the Business Plot that I can't believe goes overlooked is how much one of the players has had an outsize affect on our government for almost 100 years now:

Prescott Bush
In July 2007, a BBC investigation reported that Prescott Bush, father of U.S. President George H. W. Bush and grandfather of then-president George W. Bush, was to have been a "key liaison" between the 1933 Business Plotters and the newly emerged Nazi regime in Germany,[51] although this has been disputed by Jonathan Katz as a misconception caused by a clerical research error.[52] According to Katz, "Prescott Bush was too involved with the actual Nazis to be involved with something that was so home grown as the Business Plot."[53]

How did Gerorge Bush senior, grandson of Prescott Bush, potential suspect in a coup, becoming CIA director not raise some giant fucking red flags? He goes on to become vice-president, then president. And 8 years later his son becomes president thanks to the 2000 Supreme Court decision that came about because of the Brooks Brothers Riot

I'm not saying any of that is irrefutable proof of anything underhanded but fuckin' hell isn't it a super strange chain of events.

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

[-] tino@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

[-] Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 year ago
[-] TomMasz@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Shocked doesn't begin to describe it. Unsurprised does, though.

[-] Infynis@midwest.social 4 points 1 year ago

Is there even anyone else left on Twitter?

[-] Klnsfw@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 1 year ago

What? Seriously, what? I really wasn't expecting that? How did you know?
