no this is fucking hilarious. oil gaskets are not a novel technology. this is not something that should take a week to fix, let alone a month. any other vehicle, even if the dealership fails to provide service, you could take it into an independent shop and they wouldn't have that much difficulty sourcing replacement parts, but Tesla needs to make their vehicles last as long as your average smartphone.

It’s mostly likely due to backup in their lines, given how many recalls they’ve done and shit. Shit ass cars lmao

comically inept.

A half gallon every three days? Bitch, that's like a full oil change every week. This isn't a leak so much as an open tube slowly pissing on the ground. I'm actually going to do the math, so hang on a tick.

Three days, 72 hours. 72 hours, 4320 minutes. 4320 minutes, 259200 seconds. Okay, now, we're just going to say a quart is equivalent to a liter so my math is 'easier,' don't judge me. 2 liters, 2000 mL. 2,000 mL, 2,000,000 microliters. So 2,000,000 microliters / 259200 seconds = 7.7 microliters/second.

That's probably a difficult amount to visualize, so to put it in perspective it is roughly equivalent to a milliliter every two minutes, a shot (of liquor, size) every hour. A hospital page I just not-googled said males average ~21 mL/sec pissing in young adulthood, declining throughout life, while women average 18 mL/sec for their adult lives. So, fine, we're not exactly at human pissing rates here, but still.

it would definitely leave a trail of droplets. A glass dropper full of oil every 1.8 miles at highway speeds (55 mph).

Ok I've got the funniest idea. What if Elon got the military to waste a ton of money on a fleet of cybertrucks?

what the fresh hell.

I used to drive this ancient Toyota that had a "bad oil leak". I was broke and sourcing which gasket would have made me have to live out of the car, so I just kept an eye on its levels and added back oil frequently until I got into a better situation. not proud of it, because leaking engine oil is bad for the environment.

my bad oil leak was probably something like a quart every 3-4 months of daily operation.

this isn't an oil leak. this is just dumping oil in the ground.

the article isn't specific, but knowing tesla the problem is that they just forgot a gasket and it literally is just an open seam in the motor or the transfer case.

I hope this guy gets charged for enviromental crimes but also very fucking carbrained to go "welp, nothing to be done about this" and then just fucking dump a gallon of oil on the ground a day

Not like they have swaths of cyber trucks sitting unused to be a replacement smgdh

I've bought wired headphones from the .99 cent store that lasted longer than these piles. I bought a hundred dollar Chromebook a while back. The keyboard took a shit a couple months later and that was the last one I'll ever buy. 100k on a truck that does shit like this on a regular basis SMH

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 day ago

All the ones around me are corroded now

100k rust bucket lol

[–] [email protected] 12 points 23 hours ago

Whatever was leaking is very likely broke at this point. The article says they think it's drivetrain oil, but the only thing I could think of in that regard is maybe differential(s). That's only really gonna hold half a gallon, so if it's not already ruined it will definitely fail prematurly from running dry, even if it was only once.

~~Harleys~~ Teslas don't leak, they mark their spot
