So, I always wondered what I would do if the Apocalypse broke out and all estradiol medication was gone.

I thought that maybe drinking the urine of pregnant mares would do the trick, but you’d die of overhydration long before you could get proper levels. However, it turns out that, similar to the production of Premarin, you could use the urine to make estrogen cheese. doggirl-smart

Unfortunately, I don’t really like cheese. So I’d be screwed either way catgirl-flop

This is fucking awesome research, thanks for sharing. I'm now going to become a RETVRN guy but we need to RETVRN to roving bands of nomadic transfem horse archer pastoralists

Breene et al. in 1965 had demonstrated salt absorption in cheese, when curd is submerged in brine. In this alternative hypothesis curd, contained within a horsehair or cloth bag, is submerged in warm pregnant mare urine, within a buried clay pot. This is just a variation of buried clay pot irrigation which has been known for over 2100 years. Clay pots could be buried singly or as a group within a small depression. It could then be intermittently refreshed with warm urine from nearby tethered pregnant mares. One mare can daily produce between 7.6 to 11.9 litres of urine. The pot’s aperture could be covered with a large cloth. This, fixed in position by pegs, would absorb the urine and preferentially drain it into it by placing a small stone placed over each clay pot’s aperture, causing a further depression. The curd, having absorbed oestrogens, is then extracted and prepared as cheese for storage and later ingestion.

The "recipe" if anyone is curious.

The original experiment used cheddar. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022030265883023

But I think any brined cheese could be used to absorb the conjugated equine estrogens.

Brined piss cheese...

Worth it!!!

There's also plants with estrogenic effects. Anise oil comes to mind, it is considered safe for flavoring, and people did manage to hugely increase its potency.

Sounds more appetizing than the urine cheese but I’m not sure if the effect is strong enough, and the stuff in the link is definitely way beyond what a bunch of queer horse riders in antiquity could do.

There's a researcher that I know that is going through and resurfacing a lot of shit like western historians gendering people as male eunuchs when they referred to themselves as female. This happened a lot with the Galli, Syrians, and Scythians

Kim Stanley Robinson's Years of Rice and Salt leaned into this really hard. it follows a group of characters that reincarnate in different historical periods. you follow them by their first name's letter. one is trans, finding out after becoming a eunuch (but in a non consensual way). the character finally feels normal afterwards.

then after that she always reincarnates as a cis woman which is pretty cool. she has to do some trippy afterlife journey to claim her true gender

That book is such a trip in general. The overall premise is "what if the Black Death wiped out 99% of Europe instead of just 40-50%, and then China became the dominant global and colonial power?" It's an interesting thought experiment.

i have a soft spot for it. only thing is i wish the little self contained short stories were longer. especially the time period with the Iroquois taking in Japanese refugees and in turn being educated by them to rapidly industrialize. that by itself could be it's own novel

and it's the Iroquois Federation that becomes the superpower in the end. and communist. but only because of the big war

Yeah, I enjoyed it also. It's great to see alternate history that isn't just hitler-detector, and I enjoy KSR's writing in general. Definitely not something I'd recommend to everyone, but fun if it's something you're into.

everyone seems to either love him or hate him (as far as his writing and characters go).

Does the science on this check out? I haven't figured out how to research 'if I kill a man and snatch his nuts as a snack, will it give me estrogen' yet.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I have extensively researched it, and as a CIS het male, I can assure you it definitely does not. No need to do any further research or start any sort of LGBTQ science youtube channel in which you interview the author to help them plug the upcoming series they're working on. It's absolutely a no go. I actually have numerous scientific papers here behind me, just out of frame, confirming my findings.

I'm not cool enough to talk to Gretchen Felker Martin, myself. I emailed Casey Plett once and almost dropped my spaghetti.

Also that series still isn't coming out, no way. Third installment in the trilogy of Trans A Novel based TV things to get canned.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Lol, isn't that for her to decide?

Fingers crossed you're wrong!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I want to be wrong, but the Detransition Baby TV thing didn't amount to anything, the Nevada film got shitcanned, I dunno. Manhunt has a better chance due to funny funding, but my mind's eye cannot picture any part of Manhunt on screen.
