Most people walk with really mincing steps not using their full stride even when walking at their 'top speed' you really gotta swing those hams if you wanna walk properly

I always see this, someone people's feet fall like half way past their planted foot, you can do so much more with a stride, why are you being a penguin?
I've tried to match the same footfall (timing my right to their right, my left to their left) of people walking ahead of me and it's like they're walking with a rubber band tied around their ankles I don't get it. I'm not even talking about people going for a casual stroll, I mean people going hell for leather trying on a morning commute. I want to open their world what if people could use 100% of their leg
I'm a cook and am hyper aware of other people around me cause a lot of the time not doing so could get you stabbed or burned by accident, you announce that you're moving, do so with purpose, call before going around a corner, say you're behind someone before passing behind them etc. Cause of this, I am VERY judgemental of how bad people are at navigating the world and how little awareness they have of what's going on around them. I'm also usually watching for opportunities to pass, so I'm watching them feet like I'm Quentin Tarantino and you could put these people in shackles and they wouldn't even notice.

same – this plus covid has me running errands at sunrise to avoid most people

Lmaoooo. That does make me wonder if spatial awareness is just one of those things that people assume is 'innate' or 'common sense' but actually has to be taught/nurtured. I'm super fucking clumsy cos my arms are lankly kong long, but I do dance and having to be not only conscious of myself and others but kinda like you say, im guessing the need to the speed/synch with others has spilled over into other parts of my life.
It's a skill. I am constantly getting after people for not doing this shit at work, I don't fuck around when it comes to safety and someone quietly walking behind our line could get bashed with a pizza paddle or shoved into the window of a 640 degree oven and get a brutal hand/arm burn. Not to mention not saying you are moving with a knife or anything sharp when you do so or hot pots or pans, and if it's full of hot water or oil mention that as well and loud enough people hear you. Also saying 'behind' is kinda pointless if you're already within an inch of the person you're telling that to. I'm also a bit of a Personal Space guy and need to keep telling people aks me for stuff that's near me and I'll pass it to them instead of reaching past me. It's a necessary discipline that should already be a reflex to some i work with, it's just really dangerous to be cavalier with that stuff, it seems like no big deal until it is. Recently when going to my laundry bag to get a dish towel that i washed recently to dry my knife alone at home I called out 'corner, knife!' When going to my bedroom to get the towel. I say 'behind' to strangers at grocery stores when passing them all the time.
Also I don't get why people always walk dead center of a sidewalk or groups cluster and take the whole thing up,.I live around a college and holy fuck those kids will walk straight into you cause you won't walk on the shoulder for their benefit cause they have no awareness of anything but their group and whatever bullshit they're talking about
I live around a college and holy fuck those kids will walk straight into you cause you won't walk on the shoulder
I didn't realize this was a universal college-town experience
This has always bothered me a little bit. I'm tall with long legs and tend to outspeed people at what is a relaxed normal stride for me.
Yeah I really don't like the slow meandering people like to do and have places I'm trying to go, so I usually walk pretty fast.
I walk so fast that when I have it in me, I can keep pace with my friends when they’re on their bikes.
Okay not that fast
Holy fucking balls I hate slow meandering people who block every possible way of passing them, or who walk at such a pace and distance that you have to slow to a crawl. I will actually cross a busy major street to avoid walking behind someone (either because of this problem, or because I feel really uncomfortable walking behind people a lot of times).

same
slow people who won't keep to one side annoy the shit outta me
I pass joggers regularly. My legs are fucking BUFF and carrying a fairly skinny and smol rest of my body. I'm built like a GEKKO from mgs4. My favorite job ever would be Guy That Has To Carry A Scroll From One Castle to Another
Yeah, to the point that it can be frustrating to go on walks with people (for everyone involved). I'm not ay all in good shape, but whenever I go on hikes my natural walking pace is apparently a death march for most people so they have to ask me to slow down and then I end up feeling kinda restless. It seems like people equate walking fast with not being relaxed, but idk, it's just the speed I feel comfortable at and I walk that fast even if I'm strolling aimlessly.
Anyone else walk really fast
Yes, and it's not even like I'm trying to rush, it's just my walking pace.
I also like listening to metal or hard rock while I’m walking, and matching my pace to the drum beat or something. It makes me feel awesome.
Yep, I'll do it with walking, running, hiking, and it feels great!
I have the opposite problem... I have zero sense of urgency.
It's got nothing to do with urgency at all for me, my normal walking speed is just really really fast. If there's anything worth lingering for, I'll just stop
yeah i gay walk everywhere if I'm on my own. i can hit a really good pace if I'm in a rush. if im with my gfs they're asking me to slow down sometimes. i live in a busy city and have utter disdain for slow walkers.
What is gay walk? I thought I knew but apparently I do not
its just a meme i guess that we tend to walk faster than the straights. I'll always knock 5 mins off a google maps walking estimate
I love this
Yeah, for some reason all my friends growing up were rather tall, I think that's where I get it from
Yes and I have lengthy struggle sessions with myself over whether this indicates narcissistic traits in my personality. To be clear I am not suggesting that this is the case for anyone else who walks faster than their companions. But I've really beat myself up over it at times.
I'm marginally better at matching my pace to whoever I'm walking with now. But yeah. Keep up damnit.
When I'm being most truthful with myself I think it stems from anxiety and is related to my hypervigilance. Sometimes I yearn for a past relationship with a woman who was wired the same way. We would flow through crowds together and it felt amazing.
Also I just have long legs and it feels bad and restrictive to walk slow. But that's my problem to deal with not to foist on the people I'm walking with who might be struggling to keep up.
... I have really deep demons around this stuff.
I walk everywhere so I wanna get there kinda fast.
I'm an old man.
yes, I'm a very fast walker, which I attribute to being a short person who grew up around tall people – had to lengthen my stride and increase the pace to keep up
yes but i'm a bit short so my max speed before i have to break into a run or jog is lower than i'd like. i genuinely get upset when someone (taller) starts outpacing me
Yep. I walk faster than anyone I know. I'm trying to be better about letting the other walker(s) lead so I can be in on whatever conversation they're having.
I’ve been told I walk really slow, but I don’t give a fuck why is everyone in such a hurry all the time. No I will not walk faster.
Public transport transfers and anxiety.
I contend that my pace is average, I just move fast because my stride is huge.
I walk fast. Kinda slow at everything else, though.
I run super slow, walk super fast.
Love matching my walking to the drum beat
I tend to feel bonkers anxious if I walk slow, like I'm weirdly balancing on each leg before proceeding to the next step. I don't even feel like I'm that fast, but even if I only walk faster than 50% of people, I'm going to overtaking or walking weird slow a lot of the time.
Can absolutely eat up the miles walking long distance though
