Send me up to the ISS. I'll keep the dudes stranded up there company until this whole thing blows over. And if WW3 happens, I'll be safe.

Don't come to Canada. We don't have enough housing for the people already here. Most of you will die of exposure during your first winter here.

Go to Mexico instead. I'm sure they'll take you.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Well with Trump in power, factoring in the accelerated climate change ppl may be ok in winter.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

As a wisconsinite I can tell you climate change is destabilizing the polar vortex so now there's about a week every year where it's -40 so climate change isn't just about warming but the general change and destabilization of the climate

Hot gets hotter and cold gets colder. I don't know why think one without the other. It's how the Earth fights back.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 hours ago

Yeah that was the point of day after tomorrow movie. Granted it was extreme. Issues is I haven't seen any of the cold yet.....

[–] [email protected] 3 points 16 hours ago

There is that.

To be fair, other countries want US citizens even less than the US wants* immigrants.

Do people actually think that the US is alone in anti-immigration sentiment? Do they think it’s different because they’re American?

The US is the one with a giant monument to immigration, at whose feet is a plaque that reads:

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

And if they, of all people, are now against that, what makes Americans think anyone else will want them? It’s delusional.

Many countries shut down immigration to Americans in 2016, after the first round of trump’s policies, and they haven’t opened back up yet, partly because there was a solid chance of this happening again.

???

It's easy as piss to emigrate from America as long as you:

Are white, middle class, not provably disabled, not gay, with no criminal history, with at least one million in assets, as long as you don't have a history of activism, already are hired by a local company, and have a STEM degree.

See?

Easy.

I checked out Canadian requirements. The first stage of screening asks your name, email and year of birth - which only goes back to 1970. So apparently I'm too old.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago

That number specifically indicates that they're probably using a positive integer amount of seconds since the epoch (jan 1st, 1970). Rookie mistake.

Hey, that’s not entirely fair. Russia is more than happy to accept Americans, so long as they’re willing to be cannon fodder for a while. I’m pretty sure they’re not even putting an age limit on it. If you survive, you may even get a small flat afterwards. And if you don’t, they may give your parents money for a Lada (providing they were Russian citizens already).

IMO any American who wants to emigrate to Russia is welcome to become topsoil in Ukraine.

Canada’s gonna swing the same way next year so you’re not really escaping from anything anyways

[–] [email protected] 33 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Already swung super anti-immigration as of earlier this year, so the move to Canada plan isn't going to be as easy either

[–] [email protected] 1 points 15 hours ago

Canada will need to build a giant moat of syrup.

It will drown americans attempting to cross after their diabetic coma hits and they submerge in a sugary tomb.

Like Titanic meets Wall-E.

Don't worry. He'll be coming for Canada. You already have MAGA lovers up there. Who's going to stop him? The Canadian military?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

It already well on it's way depending on your province. People have moved out of Quebec because of the intolerance going on there. Hell, I know a streamer who moved because someone threw a fucking brick through their window at his wife who moved there from the USA. Not because she's black or colored either, because she's white as a piece of paper.

Alberta is trying to get rid of public health care, Ontario isn't far behind.

You can outlive this. There's a good chance he can't. Be strong, and look out for those more vulnerable than yourself.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 15 hours ago

Because J.D. Vance is going yo improve things?

Good joke.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago

My concern is that the train is still running at full speed even if the driver has died of a heart attack.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago

Oh boy, President JD 'couch enthusiast' Vance!

Well, then kick him out. Or maybe guillotine him out, so that he doesn't return.

Like, if people were actually that irked that he won, they'd be doing something. But no, from what I hear El Trumpo actually won the popular vote: the US wants to be fascist. Maybe Canada too. (No, not as in the US wants to be Canada... although that'd be an improvement...)

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So far, it's only been his supporters trying to kill him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

At least we'll always have the ironic laugh at how the US, a country with guns for everyone, didn't even get a tin medal in shooting the Olympics, and how the US, a country with the 2nd Amendment, can't even kill a tyrant right.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I’m concerned that there is no doubt this is what America wants.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, it’s more like 15 million people didn’t vote that voted in the last election. Lots of reasons for that 15m, but there was definitely an effort to create pathetic non-voters

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Which means 15m people don't mind being fascists, which functionally is the same as they actively want to be fascists.

~~But hey at least they don't want to be Canada... I guess?~~

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I know it’s easy to say that they don’t mind being fascists but I’ve been talking to a lot of relatives and I believe it’s more of a mix of being misinformed, passionate and then on top of that disadvantaged. Resulting in a type of apathy that allows them to stand by.

They don’t register the threat the way you and I might, just like in Germany they will fold into the fascist party all the same.

In Germany they had a name for these kind of people, it was still Nazi.

I love the assumption that other countries would just take American emigrants.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's a shit ton harder than people realize.... well at least to go anywhere in the industrialized world. Unless you are independently wealthy or have an extremely high demand job.

Billy Bob who's career is working at McDonalds isn't going to get approved.
