6/10
That's my rating for the garbage truck I just heard doing an impression of Godzilla. To be honest - it was really 5/10 but I gave it an extra point because I smiled.

update to being afraid of being a liability to my comrades in an organizing context, i forgot that i am actually moderately charming and it was a non-issue who could have guessed
I feel like I've been on the verge of an anxiety or panic attack for the last 2 months but nothing has happened. Is that also anxiety? Either way I'm getting more and more on my plate each week but still no breakdown
My roommate is fucking stealing my razors for her own use, eating all the food I bought for myself, and literally was feeding my dog fucking frozen bread while I was in rehab (Despite me sending 300$ a month for food and to take care of him) BUT HER GF IS THE ONLY ONE ON THE LEASE SO IF I DEFEND MYSELF IN ANY WAY I WONT HAVE A HOME FOR ME OR MY DOG FOR CHICAGO WINTER. And somehow through all this I haven't picked up anything harder than fucking weed. (Which she also has stolen)
Me: "That's a Jack Ace! Blackjack! Pay up!"
Everyone else at the poker table:
What the fuck is up with all these chuds insisting that "the federal government" is just "giving" illegal immigrants shit for free? They won't shut the fuck up about it, but I know for a fact the u.s. ffucking government isn't going to give people housing, cell phones, cars, or fuckinv cash FOR FREE
It's actually a form of propaganda the Russians started called Vranyo. Repeating a known lie is a ritual used to establish in-group/out-group dynamics. All the folks who repeat the lie are signaling they are acting in unison, refuting the argument indicates that you are a member of the out group.
Dandadan is pretty funny but that first episode was a real hard sell.
Anime has a 90% chance of being pedopholic
The op is a fucking bop tho
It's still stuck in my head
Revisionist rats! I did nothing but good for your project, yet you banned me for my ideology in haste! I gave you many chances to unban me, I could have made thousands of edits, yet you rejected me. Now… you have forced me to go THERMONUCLEAR!
This is cultural appropriation :hasan-smash:
If Hoxha had internet, he'd be Wiscom
Today in petty bullshit
For months any post suggesting in the Helldivers sub that the game needed more difficulty, that weapons shouldn't be buffed, that player's problems were rooted in playing a difficulty beyond their ability, or that they needed to engage their problem solving skills, or that god forbid simply staying within sight of their teammates would solve all of their complaints, was heavily downvoted complete with screaming, threats, and accusations of mental illness.
Today. Today. This beautiful, horrible day. Posts saying that the massive reduction in difficulty and complexity over the last two months was too much and has removed much of the challenge and complexity of the game, making it less fun, are receiving upvotes. Upvotes!
My name is Cassandra and my curse is to know what is to come.
Fuck it I might just get a "ὄνομά μοι ἡ Κασσάνδρα, κατηραμένη ὑπό τοῦ Ἀπόλλωνος" tattoo. It'd be my first, but it would tell my story long after I am dead.
A lot of gamers just don't understand basic game mechanics when playing certain games. The problem isn't the difficulty level, it's their understanding of the game. Once you understand the mechanics and tools available to you from the game, you can usually get through most games, even on the hardest difficulties, even if you're a mediocre player. I would know, I'm incredibly mediocre to straight up bad at any game that's not a car racing game, but I can still play most games at the hardest difficulties.
One game I've seen a lot of gamers misunderstand in instance, that even I misunderstood for years, is the Horizon Zero Dawn series on PlayStation. The gameplay is all about manipulating the machines/robot dinosaurs into certain elemental states, or using damage types they are weak to, so that you can take them down. A prime example here is Shell Walkers. These are large robot crabs that carry a cargo crate as their "shell", have one pincer as a forcefield, the other as a lightning gun, and have a shock pack on their underside for AOE attacks. If you just shoot at them normally, it's a nightmare, shooting endless arrows and bombs at these invincible crabs . However, they are weak to "tear" damage. With a couple of tear blast arrows, or tearblasts themselves from the tearblaster weapon, you can make these carbs defenceless and remove all of their attacks. By understanding game mechanics, they go from impossible to fight to pretty easy.
Another thing I see gamers do is play third person cover shooters like call of duty, and then complain that they're too hard.
Obsessively balancing a coop PVE game. Idgi.
Do we got Illuminate yet? I assumed they would have come after we wormholed that terminid-infested planet at them.
I assume that if they had done any work on Illuminate they'd had to essentially re-start from the basic design phase. The playerbase absolutely will not tolerate having their controls reversed, giant energy walls separating them from teammates, shielded melee enemies with arc weapons teleporting in on top of them, or basically any other mechanic from the Illuminate in HD1.
Obsessively balancing a coop PVE game. Idgi.
Balance is the wrong paradigm. Balance applies to competitive PvP games. In a PvE game there needs to be an integration of game mechanics - The player must be given tools appropriate to the challenge they face. The tools must be satisfying to use and able to meet the challenge, but the challenge must also be interesting and engaging. Helldivers is a puzzle game pretending to be a shooter. The players have a wide variety of tools with which to meet a wide variety of challenges thrown up by the fairly strict rules of the sandbox.
What many players ran in to was this; Bringing an anti-tank weapon, waiting for a charger to run past them, then shooting it in the ass was too demanding for them. Staying close to other teammates and working together to bring down threats was too demanding for them. Having to use the appropriate tool for a given problem was too demanding for them.
A significant number of people howled and screamed and harassed the devs to make the game much simpler and much easier and they got what they thought they wanted. And now they're realized that a game that was beautifully, elegantly crafted around complex systems and tools and challenges is now much less interesting, much less unique, much blander. They thought they wanted "strong weapons" not realizing that every weapon had a role for a reason, that there's much much much more to the game than banal "power fantasy".
Now they're slowly starting to realize that they lost something precious when "The weapons are strong now". They've lost the constraints that forced them to think, be creative, solve problems in novel ways. Now there's one solution to every problem and it's an easy solution. They don't have to puzzle out what to do next while under pressure. You can just shoot everything with whatever and it dies with trivial ease.
The difference between a game and imaginative play is that a game has rules that constrain your actions, forcing you to use the tools at your disposal to solve problems within the limits imposed by those rules. You have to be creative to meet the challenge.
Imaginative play has no limits. You can always declare that super-man is stronger than Goku if you want. But the thing is, after about age six, that kind of play starts to lose it's appeal. There are no actual challenges because there are no limits on your imagination. Without limits there's nothing to solve, nothing to work through, nothing to frustrate you and spur you to chew on that frustration until you come up with a solution.
The experience becomes empty. The victories are made hollow. The excitement bleeds away and the "give fans what they want" crowd doesn't understand why because they don't know anythinga bout game design or the theory of playing games.
Bringing an anti-tank weapon, waiting for a charger to run past them, then shooting it in the ass was too demanding for them.
This is cowardice. Eat-Its go to the Charger's face, at point blank range. It's in the name.
But yeah, one of the issues I had with the game was that if I didn't bring at least two friends, it was hard to coordinate with randoms. Too many people ignoring voice chat and pings in a game where team strategies are necessary at the fun difficulties.
True dat. I'm conrinually shocked at how indifferent gamers are to communication and the most basoc cooperation. I think it reflects social hyper-alienation. Like folks no longer really understand that they're playing alongside people
I’ve learned that the only people who hate hoxha as much as some communists are Muslims. A century down the line, how do we feel about state atheism?
State atheism is for cowards. We cannot simply reject God from individual states. We must attack the Throne and put an end to God directly. Only then will the horror stop.
MURDER THE GODS AND TOPPLE THEIR THRONES
How do we implement god murdering in the political level?
Dunno, marx didn't consider it
i'm building a really, really big anime sword and i'm hopimg that will do it.
This isn't, like a joke or anything. I've been cursed with a horrific condition since birth. Most people cannot even begin to comprehend it because it's so alien to normal human experience. I WANT REVENGE.
Christ I'm actually really angry about this. Something believers either do not or cannot understand is that some of the people their God has brutalized and tortured aren't convinced by proclamations of mercy and forgiveness.
God may judge you but his sins outnumber your own
Like this is something I rarely see religious and magic people actually acknowledge or reckon with. If there is a higher power that created all this? Then they did this to me. It's not just random chaos and bullshit. It's a crime. There is a perpetrator and a victim. You're making a profound statement about why suffering exists without reckoning what that actually means for people who suffer. Same thing with magic. If you really can effect the world in profound ways why the hell are you using it for petty bullshit instead of fixing things? Stop fucking around with love spells and strike down our enemies. If you claim to possess that power you are also claiming responsibility for how you do and do not use it. If you really can perceive things at a distance, perceive the future, effect probability, why aren't you using it to fight? If you claim that power and don't have it then you're using up resources that could be used to fight. Either way; What the fuck?
It's not just an arbitrary personal distaste. The claims believers make have consequences. If they're correct then many phenomena go from being impersonal components of a cold, mechanicstic universe to choices made by a specific being from whom justification and satisfaction must necessarily be demanded. If god exists then I want a fucking apology and an explanation.
:waow-based:
Herr Dühring, however, cannot wait until religion dies this, its natural, death. He proceeds in more deep-rooted fashion. He out-Bismarcks Bismarck; he decrees sharper May laws [127] not merely against Catholicism, but against all religion whatsoever; he incites his gendarmes of the future against religion, and thereby helps it to martyrdom and a prolonged lease of life. Wherever we turn, we find specifically Prussian socialism.
Engels, Anti-Dühring III, part V
Personally I think the best way to tackle religion is to take away power from the clergy/priestly class by targeting the religious bodies and organisations through indirect means. Temples should be given over to the community. A withering away of religion is possible in the way Engels describes in that chapter, and can be helped along by the further atomisation of organised religion until it is something individual which is hard to organise along.
How tf did Alien Romulus get good reviews? I couldn’t even make it to the end. 100% pure slop. It’s even worse than the shit Ridley was making.
university started again this week and man im so fucking over it. the building rots away while the faculty is still pretending like everything is alright, a new year of students studying things that literally no one cares about and for which there have never been fewer jobs available (and even those jobs will be done with AI within the next decade). And this semester I think literally everyone I was on friendly terms with has either quit or gotten their diploma. I don't think I want to do this anymore but what am I going to do, if i am this lonely and depressed while being around people who should have the same interests as me where else am i not going to be even more lonely and miserable
Apparently, today is Boss’s Day in the US and employees (lazy, entitled, dim) should show their gratitude to their bosses (hard-working, self-made, genius). Can anybody from the US confirm that this is an actual thing? (Coincidentally, today is also the day Marie Antoinette was executed, if you need some inspiration to come up with a gift )
Boss's Day
It's a thing in as much as it appears on some calendars, but I've never witnessed anyone actually observing it. Fake ass greeting card holiday
I have ☹️
Used to be the common knowledge (or at least I was told this a few times) when recording an audio cassette was to peak at or just above 0db on the meters. When playing with some spare Fuji DRIIs however I found that a good cassette can take +3db easily, even up to +6db or above at times, and only peaking at 0 is leaving sound quality & headroom on the table. Now that I look back on the internet this has become the common knowledge on Tapeheads and shit too. People are slamming tons of record level onto these things even on mediocre decks and unassuming tapes, like late Technics decks and 2000s era Sony HFs.
Funnier thing still, I have a couple of my dad's tapes from the 90s, an XL-II and a TDK SA, and they are recorded like that, very cool. I am carrying on the tradition (of committing stupid albums to metallic particles on mylar tape in a lil shell)
For bonus comedy, the tapeheads people who used to shriek about chromes and metals, who are the reason I couldn't really buy XL-IIs, are now yapping about how actually Type Is are just fine almost as good as TDK SA!! Lmao.
I bought some TDKs today. And now I am on the hunt for a tape deck. This is happening
Uh oh smelly tapes gang...
