My in-laws are bitching about "how bad" the weather will be after it makes it's way to Ohio.
I understand losing power for a few hours is irritating, but have some fucking perspective. You can go see actual devastation with a single tank of gas.

Your in-laws sound like assholes.
You are correct.
Also, Milton is projected to cross from the Gulf straight across Florida into the Atlantic.
I'm no meteorologist, but I'm pretty sure Ohio's weather isn't going to be significantly impacted this time.
You know, you just might be on to something.
I doubt they have at any point bothered to look at a weather report though.
What, you expect them to "do their own research" or something?
I was in high school when Charlie, Francis, and Jeanne rolled through. That was awful, the compounding storm damage really fucked over a lot of people, it was the third one that did in my family's roof, and we had blue tarps over the damage for over a year and we were fortunate enough to be able to call roofers the next day. I was still finding the rare bit of insulation in my stuff years later when I was packing to move.
This is looking really bad.
The models do have it going down to "only" cat 3 at landfall thanks to some aggressive wind shear closer to florida. The wind shear will spread out the high winds a bit, decreasing the max wind speed, but exposing a wider area to hurricane strength winds.
I really hope Tampa is ready for this level of storm surge and winds.
I wonder if this is the one that makes Florida go bankrupt.
Nah, democrats will bail them out as idiots like DeSantis come crawling back despite shooting down emergency relief for themselves and other states. At least the democrats do the right thing.
There are two different issues. The first is whether Democrats will support emergency spending for Florida, which it likely will.
The second is if the Federal Government will support Florida's home insurance lender of last resort, owned by the State of Florida, from going bankrupt and possibly taking the state's finances with it. That is very uncharted territory.
Please break off, please break off, please break off....
