MODERATORS

I have no idea what the fuck's going on most of the time unless I hear about it second hand.

  • I do not watch videos (I am a boomer)
  • I do not listen to podcasts (boomer)
  • I don't use social media except hexbear/lemmy
  • not gonna read the paper or w/e (not that much of a boomer)
  • I only read WSJ/HuffPo/Politico/CNN whatever for the laughs every once in a while

Any good sites you go to for reputable news? Blogs that are not necessarily news but are maybe about the news are good too. Lately I've been reading a lot of Erin in the Morning, for example.

Bonus points if it has an RSS feed

I don't. I'm a newscel. I'm taking a tolerance break.

My wrists are too thin to be able to hold up the New York Times Sunday edition.

I'm a liberal.
I'm an incel.
My wrists are thin,
And my dick is small.

This is the straight-gay life.
Beggin' for a wife.

Feels bad to be a liberal.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Hell yeah, let's give it up for the newscels

Some of you need to cough it up and reveal the news goods, because every now and again I come across one of you lovable dorks that can tell me every recently elected member of some remote 150-pop hamlet's Liberation Party, their star sign, and their policy positions. Hand over the news sources xi-gun

News now is just voyeuristic ragebait to increase ad revenue. I just skim headlines on lemmy tbh

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

hexbear, local stuff from local outlets via rss and email, plus secondhand

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

My RSS feed has the following:

The Intercept

Jacobin

Seymour Hersch

Ars Technica

EFF Deeplinks

It's Going Down

Foreign Policy (lib)

The Economist's The World This Week (lib)

My local paper (lib)

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I hate scroll NY Times and hate watch MSNBC 50-60 hours a day.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

hexbear and twitter communists are my legit main sources of news

I get mine from deciphering coincidences that happen around me, as well as occurences of words in a sequence that was revealed to me in dreams by an angelic alien species at the age of 7. Also I listen to every episode of My Little Pony in reverse to catch the secret messages the show's producer hides for me.

Russian telegram (Russian news and analysis)

Private Weixin/QQ group chats (Chinese news and analysis beyond state censorship)

Naked Capitalism (general finance/economics - the only website that Michael Hudson reads daily, and so I simply follow what he does)

Status Coup (US labor news)

That’s probably enough material for the day. For everything else, I rely on the Hexbear news megathread.

Same problem here tbh. I don't want to watch youtube videos or listen to podcasts. Can I just get some socialist newsletter delivered to my inbox daily/weekly?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yes, exactly. that would be perfect!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tiktok, here, and the podcasts Chapo Trap House and Trashfuture

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

CGTN, Telesur, various small independent outlets (their twitters/telegrams mostly), mintpress, and Hexbear's news megathread.

I try to keep off lib shit for my mental health, the exception being the osint telegrams for war stuff. Any time I turn on BBC or Sky or something I end up shouting at the tv and feel my blood pressure go through the roof it's really not healthy.

I watch mainstream news every 2-3 days. Just the daily news in my country for 15min besides that -this place. Also first thought on youtube does leftist news in 6mins every 2nd day.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

telesur english

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

From Mercury mostly

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

boomer status confirmed

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

If it affects you, you will hear about it anyway. All other interesting news happened decades ago. Unplug from the torment nexus

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I like peoplesworld when I remember it exists.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

What languages do you speak?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Tbh I get a fair amount from here and my leftist online friends. I do fairly frequently check up on lib news just to see what they're up to though. I do have a few others I check sometimes too, and I like to try and get my different world news from different places than just the US (even if it's often still kinda lib). Like I speak French and can understand Spanish well enough to read the news so for places where those are spoken I'm going to look more at sources in those languages. In terms of specific sources, Kawsachun News/Kawsachun Coca (Spanish version, doesn't have exactly the same articles as the English) are generally leftist and I think decent for Latin American stuff mostly (and Bolivia since that's where they're located)
