Negro Matapacos (“Cop-Killer Blackie”) was a famous stray dog from thestreets of Santiago who joined student protests across the city from 2010, and in particular during the 2011 movement for free education.

he was a stray dog from the streets of Santiago, and began joining student demonstrations in 2010. The following year, one of the biggest social movements since the fall of the military dictatorship began, fighting for free education and against neoliberal reforms to the education system.

Negro Matapacos was then seen regularly at every demonstration, defying tear gas and water cannons and always barking at or attacking only the riot police, and never any students or rioters. He subsequently continued to appear sporadically at future demonstrations, and hung out on university campuses, becoming beloved to student and radical movements as a symbol of resistance to violent authority.

His last days were spent resting with people who took him in, with a crowdfunded veterinarian.

Some people who knew him sent us some of their memories of him, telling us how he defied tear gas and water cannons, and only ever barked at or attacked police officers, and never students or rioters.

After his death, his legacy lives on in songs, street murals, an award-winning documentary and in the memories of all those who knew him. He was a good boy.

I keep getting real faint and vomiting and I'm worried it's some sort of deficiency. im-vegan and suck at eating - maybe I'm not getting enough of something and my body is just now noticing?

Anyways I have a doc appointment coming up already for blood work - anything else I should ask to tack onto my hormone stuff?

Just saw someone tweet a link to a textbook pdf on github. I just hope twitter is no longer big enough that this draws attention, but it's so easy to find textbooks on github and I hope linking to stuff on social media doesn't ruin that. We had a good thing going waltuh

3 terrible bosses from different companies in a row and I ended up screaming at this last angry fucker lol. Trades in the south really build up your character lore

So all the complaining I did about my boss taking over my station? He stopped working it yesterday and apparently my co workers had said after I left the numerous ways I did things differently and thar they preferred that. Which felt nice that people like having me in charge above the actual boss, technically I'm on the same level as any other line cook, I just work a position with immediate authority and people tend to assume I'm management until I start shit talking management. Anyway, I'm glad the chef pisssd off and let me do ehst is normally his job again cause holy hell am I better at it. I'm a great cook, but I'm fucking AMAZING at plating and calling and expoing. It's like playing papers please and I never can remember how much I kinda like it until.im at another part of the kitchen. It's no brains stuff if you know how to make food for.that place.

So if you can rejuvenate cells by incomplete reprogramming into an embryonic-like state (you can), at what point during the reprogramming of brain cells is delicate contextual data lost, if at all? Can you de-age brain tissue without erasing the memories it holds? It seems like you can do a lot with memory, given how moths remember the smells of their larvahood despite spending the intervening time as a smoothie.

We don't know how the brain gives rise to emotions, memories, consciousness. People can relearn how to walk as adults (after an accident), people can learn a second language and forget their old on and the regain it after spending a few months back in it. We have some ideas that memories are associated at this part of the brain, or visual processing is concentrated here, that half your body is controlled mostly from here etc. But mostly we only know this from accidents and strokes damaging those areas, sometimes during brain surgery we can doubly confirm those area, but mostly we don't get a chance to experiment and play around with a healthy brain - beyond the one you have that you use every day lol, but no direct access

We don't have any clue on what exactly happens to give rise to the sensation of "you" that you're experiencing - could be quantum in nature and not just from a specific pattern of neurons firing. We have no idea, the drugs we give to interfere with memory formation during general anesthesia seem to hint at that by interrupting microtubules. It's a completely wide open field of study. The brain also retains considerable plasticity even after its "done" growing at 25, you can learn and form memories throughout the life span.

protip: get insurance on your phone

i've had the same (verizon) phone for ages, like at least 7 generations behind. well, i went on a walk and got rained on and subsequently got a lil water in my charging port and shit got broken. went into a verizon store and talked with the rep for a bit, and he explained that since my phone was so old, if i put in an insurance claim they'd probably upgrade my phone to something newer even if it's not the latest gen. so now i got a newer by 4 or so generations for free, and it didn't fuck up my bill.

granted i could've passed some mystical "vibe check" with the man so ymmv

If you're on the management track in the umbrella corporation at what stage on the ladder do you find out about all the evil stuff? Wouldn't keeping that stuff under wraps be really hard?

"To each and every brave Mexicam we say: Mexican, your best friend is a gun. Buy it. Let it be a Winchester 30-30. Make sure you have the greatest possible number of bullets. Take care of the gun and learn carefully and skillfully how to use it. It is your ticket to liberty."
