Missouri is banning the sale of drinks, candy and other foods made with hemp-derived intoxicating substances, Republican Gov. Mike Parson announced in an an executive order issued Thursday.

The ban kicks in Sept. 1.

Parson cited health concerns and lack of research on Delta-8 THC and similar unregulated CBD substances.

He also made clear that his order does not prohibit consumption of psychoactive hemp products. The rules “are not here to punish consumers,” Parson said.

"Any little enjoyment in your meager existence will be crushed swiftly and without remorse. Now get back to work!" - GOP led states.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 5 months ago

I just found a relevant clip from an 80’s documentary about the GOP

Which is weird, because keeping your workers drugged up is cheaper than actually treating them well. See: opium in China, and meth in North Korea.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Which is why the US legalized productivity drugs like caffeine and nicotine, but not something that might slow down workers.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I e never understood the mentality that stoners are slow workers. You'd rather I be miserable, feel like crap, and try to do my job like that? I get way more done when I'm in a good mood

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

That's the point. Miserable people don't have the energy to better themselves and do things such as take part time college to get a better job.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Ah ah ah - see, you did it again. Ascribing reason or logic to the GQP.

Now go back out and try it again.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

It is perfectly rational to ascribe reason and sanity to the GQP. As long as the amount ascribed to them is never more than zero.

Lmao, people are coming in to dogpile a red state not realizing that recreational marijuana is legal in Missouri. This is strictly over concerns about Delta 8 operating in an unregulated grey area, and it's a fair concern. If you have access to actual weed, you really shouldn't smoke Delta 8. I wouldn't buy anything with Delta 8 even if I was dry and traveling through a non-legal state.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Weed has Delta 8 THC in it

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (2 children)

i think it's delta-9-thc that is the product of decarboxylation

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

Normal weed has both in it. It just has Delta 9 in far greater quantities.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

Nah. Decarboxylation is about transforming THCA to THC. THCA isn't really psychoactive, but THC is. You convert it with heat, which if you're smoking is fairly easily achieved. For preparation for edibles you may need to decarboxylate as a separate step, except with baked goods IIRC.

Chalk up one more reason that despite being able to work from anywhere, and it probably having decent housing costs, to stay the hell out of Missouri.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I mean the conditions are right there, in the name of the state.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's really not that bad, lots of bigots but you don't change that by running away and leaves idiots to idiot without pushback.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

That's true I was of course only making a humorous statement

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's not a reason at all, considering they have legal recreational weed in Missouri. I drove through there earlier this year and dispensary billboards were all around the state line areas.

MO has a lot of variety to the state, there are flat areas and hilly areas and forests etc. The flat plain areas are very boring to drive through. There is probably an area that would suit almost anyone out there if you look around long enough.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Which area has legal access to female reproductive care?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I have no idea, but I would assume a gynecologist's office would be available in most of the cities.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

If I had a chance to live in Missouri I would take it. There are lots of places way worse than Missouri. Missouri is a utopia compared to Texas for example. Missouri even has legal weed making this delta 8 ban really pointless. It's like banning dog food at an all you can eat buffet.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 5 months ago

I agree with this. Delta 8 is pointless when actual weed is already legal. It's unregulated. Might as well smoke gas station bath salts. CBD should be regulated too so nobody is getting duped into buy skunk oil.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 5 months ago

Same here in Indiana as of July 1st, except unlike Missouri, actual cannabis is also illegal. It's ridiculous. All it is going to do is drive the people who can't get over to Illinois or Michigan to use other, more risky substances.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

Do "supplements" next.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago (4 children)

I agree with the delta-8 ban. Can’t have the natural thing, but let’s breathe this chemical we made in the lab and spray on ditch weed.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 5 months ago (1 children)

But you can have the natural thing. Recreational marijuana is legal in MO

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago

Then they really should be banning the lab stuff. No need for it to exist except to line some chemical company’s pockets.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago (6 children)

I’m puffing a vape as I scroll because I believe it to be better than smoking a cigarette. Lab-made does not necessarily equal poison.

It's not a synthetic cannabinoid...Delta-8 is typically extracted from hemp plants.

There are also legitimate reasons to prefer D8, even in a legal state. For example, some people prefer it's much more mild effect relative to normal cannabis.

But I do agree with not consuming products that spray it on direct combustibles and the need to have proper government regulations for product safety and testing enforcement.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I enjoyed delta8 because I'm a lightweight these days and weed is strong as fuck these days. I'm more into the THCA now though.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

What a bunch of grandparents.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's very easy for kids in Missouri to get Delta 8. They get it from the same pace that they get vapes. I tried it once and never again.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I tried a Delta 8 gummy once, very pleasant mild high. I also tried a Delta 9 gummy and that stuff is crazy and not enjoyable.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

Isn't delta-9 the THC that most people think of wrt marijuana? If so, my experience ranged from barely feeling anything, to a mild pleasant high, to so intense it was unpleasant. (In the last instance I was impatient, didn't feel the effects quick enough and took more.)

I was under the impression that the rise in federal legal sale of delta-9 edibles was because the farm bill allows concentrations of 0.3% by weight -- so in edible form you can make the gummy or whatever big enough to still include a decent dose.
