It was pretty good! I sat next to a high-school aged kid who seemingly knew nothing about the odyssey yet was arguably the hypest person in the theater going " LET'S GOO" whenever they blinded the poor cyclops and was angry as hell at Telemachus (he literally shouted 'DO SOMETHING' during the contest fight) & as a result my experience was heightened.

Definitely recommend seeing it on the biggest screen you can; I went to my local museum's imax which can do 1.43:1 and it was great. There are several scenes where I felt like I was on the damn ship.

No cyclops dong but I was blessed with one ass thanks to Circe my beloved.....

the roommates being 2 (3?) different cellar spiders in my bedroom. my smoke detector woke me up doing its bullshit EoL beep and when I was shining my flashlight at it trying to see if it had an indicator light on, I noticed this huge ass singular strand of web stretching from the corner where the smoke detector is mounted to the corner where my bed is.

Now I've been aware I've had at least one cellar spider companion for awhile now, since there's a giant molt husk of one in an abandoned web in the obnoxiously high ceiling of my closet but I assumed it died since I hadn't noticed any more webs pop up in my closet.

Anyways, I got a broom to clean the web and noticed the spider clinging to my wall. Terrified of the giant. Anyways I left him or her be but decimated their web. But lo and behold, on the other side of that singular strand - above my bed - was another cellar spider clinging to the wall. I am so confused at what they're eating though because the ground is clean and I did not see anything in their webs besides a single gnat. Whatever the case, I hope they do not retaliate for me destroying their homes but I didn't like seeing the giant shadow of a web across my ceiling when I was disconnecting the smoke detector.

I like fight movies and the main character basically tanks a fucking moving truck in the first 5 minutes

Hammers are cool and the choreography is there's one guy in the film (Brian Le) who literally moves like a fucking bear in every fight scene he's in and it's so goddamn good.

Only reason I don't give it 5/5 is because the ADR could have been better (it falls flat in a couple scenes imo) and I'm not 100% sure why they chose to film it in English since there's probably an equal number of subtitled Chinese lines in the film but the movie doesn't have a ton of dialogue scenes so it isn't the end of the world. Highly recommend if you like martial arts films

Weak. Middling. Maybe my experience was tainted by the fact that the projector just fizzled out as soon as the last 15 minutes of the movie started. We got up to the very beginning of what I am sure was an ending montage of sorts & suddenly, darkness.

I legitimately thought for the first minute or so, just hearing the audio track in a dark theater, "dang Spielberg's going for something here" but no, it was the projection.

And to make matters worse, not a single theater employee bothered to walk in and be like "hey sorry"; they just let all 8 of us sit in the dark until I got up. Anyways I did eventually wind up tracking down the manager (thanks to the security guard who acted like I was insane for asking him 'hey where did all the theater employees go, can you radio the manager? the projection cut out on the movie during the last 15 minutes or so & I want to know if I need to come back tomorrow to get my refund') and securing my fellow theater comrades all refunds.

The 15 minutes I missed were not important. I heard 95% of it and it seemed to be the ending I assumed was going to happen 30 minutes into the film. There are a few scenes that have that Spielberg juice to them camera/editing wise, but other than that it is mainly just Emily Blunt carrying the show while a bunch of other characters come in and out. Maybe a spoiler but Emily Blunt has the power to become an Aaron Sorkin character verbally in the film. It is very funny each time.

There are a handful of scenes where Emily Blunt & Josh O'Connor just go at some cgi animals and every time I laughed. It happens like FOUR times.

Anyways message wise it is alright I guess if you're an older lib. Very "if we all just listen to eachother this place can be so much better & maybe we would deserve to be visited by aliens" but delivered in a way that kind of just makes you roll your eyes at the whole film. Russia & North Korea are mentioned in various throwaway lines as antagonists (a very small part of the plot hinges on the fact that the world is apparently very close to nuclear warfare but the whys are never really explained other than a scene or two where a TV mentions NK or Russia or like "escalating tensions").

Basically just an insignificant way to ensure the movie doesn't end in 5 minutes (since the entire plot hinges on the fact that they can't disclose the aliens to the public because tensions are hot worldwide and Josh O'Connor's religious GF is like "nooo don't post it baby people will lose their shit and start launching nukes" and doesn't change her mind until her adoptive nun mother goes " Humans aren't God's favorite creation. They're God's favorite creation on Earth" which yes, I did audibly laugh at in the theater.

The only benefit I got to seeing this movie was getting a refund because it means I basically got to see it for free in IMAX, or at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of it. I thought he would give us another Fablemans but it was basically like ET except the aliens aren't present in the majority of the film and instead it is Emily Blunt, as I said, carrying the entire film by doing the at various people and suddenly revealing their inner turmoil

It was shot beautifully though and I think all the cast did their jobs well. Just...a middling plot that feels like it would have been better served as a 1985 Direct to Video movie that you catch on some streaming service or pirate it while really high after you hear about its cult following.

Bear is a coward first and foremost, but also a fucking loser. A shame to Bears everywhere.

Ian is also a piece of shit (why would you make a waitress be the sounding board for your friend's confession and then also try to sabotage that confession multiple times because you're casual hookup buddies with his crush) but less so than Bear.

Only the women characters are actually decent people & yet both get a tragic ending - something something parallels to how women are treated at large by society.

I liked this way better than Backrooms if only because it was actually horrifying. Honestly though the stories both tell are kind of mirrors of each other: Backrooms' protagonist being obsessed with returning to the past he had with his wife that he ultimately ruined to the point where he willingly traps his therapist in the Backrooms so he can be told he's justified; Obsession's protagonist being obsessed with a long-time crush that he's had multiple opportunities to express his interest in, to the point where he willingly wishes away her autonomy and spends the entire film acting like the victim. Which I think is interesting.

We as a global society need more films explaining to men that they need therapy & they need to stop blaming others for their cowardly decisions or lack thereof.

Liberal upstart Graham Platner won Maine’s Democratic Senate primary on Tuesday night, defeating Maine Gov. Janet Mills weeks after the more establishment-backed pick ended her campaign.

The Associated Press called the race soon after polls in Maine closed at 8 p.m., where voters in the state are not only weighing in on one of the nation’s most significant Senate races but also on a comeback attempt for a controversial former governor and a contest to decide the next governor that features several famous names.

The primary elections mark the first chapter in what is expected to be a compelling year in Maine politics, one that represents Democrats’ best chance to oust Sen. Susan Collins (R), who is running for her sixth term, and will see a new governor elected.

Platner easily won Maine’s Democratic Senate primary.

But the question hanging over the race was whether a series of troubling revelations about his past will lead a significant portion of Democratic voters to back Mills, who ended her campaign in April after being unable to overcome Platner’s strong polling.

When the race was called Tuesday night, Mills was garnering around 20 percent support.

Platner has attempted to shake off the stories, which include allegations that he sent sexually explicit text messages to women while married and had volatile relationships with women. At an event on Friday, Platner declared that Mainers “have my back” — an allusion to the allegations — and said that would be clear on Tuesday when he wins the primary.

But multiple Maine Democrats have raised the prospect that the negative stories could lead to a sizable protest vote in the race. Mills even teased the idea.

“People have the impression that I ‘withdrew’ or ‘dropped out,’” Mills said. “But I simply suspended active campaigning. I am still on the ballot.”

Collins is running unopposed in the Republican primary.

Nothing could illustrate the absurdity of 2026 quite like an upcoming concert by Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, in a former Soviet republic being produced by Live Nation Israel.

On June 12, the rapper will perform at Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi, Georgia, billed as the latest A-list booking by Starring Georgia, an initiative partially funded by the Georgian government, whose stated goal is “to bring to Georgia the most in-demand contemporary artists … who have never performed in our country before.” The effort appears to be working, as the 70,000 tickets put up for Ye’s headlining date sold out within a day.

In fact, staffers and contractors handling the show’s production are already on the ground in the Georgian city in advance of the show, according to social media posts shared by Live Nation Israel head and Bluestone Group founder Guy Beser. Sources say LN Israel has effectively rebranded as Live Nation Central Asia, which in 2025 brought the likes of Justin Timberlake to Azerbaijan and Guns N’ Roses to Georgia. Beser and a representative for Ye did not respond to requests for comment; a Live Nation spokesperson clarifies that “Live Nation is not producing the Ye show in Georgia; the show is being produced by Blue Stone Productions” and that the Central Asia designation is an internal moniker for the developing markets of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia.

A local producer — in this instance contracted by Starring Georgia — typically handles all issues related to the venue, including staging, sound, security, marketing, and PR. So how did Ye, whose antisemitic comments and praising of Nazism led to concert cancellations in at least four European countries — he infamously declared he was “going death con 3 on Jewish people” on social media, in addition to releasing a song called “Heil Hitler” and wearing a swastika openly — end up working with an Israeli crew?

To get to the source of this unlikely partnership, you have to rewind to the concert industry in Israel before Oct. 7, 2023. In the years leading up to the terrorist attack on southern Israel — during which Hamas killed or took hostage more than 1,000 people (many attending the Nova music festival near the Gaza border) — the Israeli music market was growing thanks to a booming economy, a period of relative calm in the region, and the possibility that better relationships with neighboring countries would help establish a regional touring market. Major music companies — labels and publishers — were starting to set up Tel Aviv offices to promote Western repertoire and sign local talent, while acts like OneRepublic, Lady Gaga, and Jennifer Lopez had performed to tens of thousands in Israel. (Bruno Mars was scheduled to headline a concert in Tel Aviv on the night of Oct. 7.)

Since then, hardly any international acts have performed in Israel, as the country has grappled with a multi-front war and a near-constant barrage of rockets. Even before the latest U.S. and Israeli military escalation in Iran, several prominent Western artists (like Lorde and Massive Attack, the latter of whom canceled a 2024 concert in Georgia, citing “the government’s attack on basic human rights”) were geo-blocking their music in Israel in protest of the country’s war in Gaza. All of which made for a sad reality for Israeli music fans, and the company in which Live Nation invested with the hope of “firmly establish[ing] Israel as a ‘must-play’ market on any world tour,” as stated in a 2017 announcement.

Live Nation Israel was formed in 2017 (along with Ticketmaster Israel) when the concert giant took majority ownership in Israeli concert-production company Bluestone, a joint venture between Guy Oseary, Madonna’s longtime manager, Beser, veteran Israeli promoter Shay Mor Yosef, and others. Bluestone, which launched in 2014, was responsible for hosting Tel Aviv concerts by such artists as Bon Jovi, Backstreet Boys, Enrique Iglesias, Major Lazer, and OneRepublic.

Ye’s Tbilisi performance would have preceded a called-off concert in Chorzow, Poland, that was scheduled for June 19. That country saw the highest death toll of Jews during World War II, a fact Poland Culture Minister Marta Cienkowska noted in her comments on social media regarding the planned Ye gig. “In a country scarred by the history of the Holocaust, we cannot pretend that this is just entertainment,” she wrote. “Artistic freedom does not mean giving a free pass to everything. Culture cannot be a space for those who exploit it to spread hatred.… We are talking about an artist who has publicly expressed antisemitic views, downplayed crimes, and profited from selling swastika T-shirts. These are not ‘controversies.’ This is a deliberate crossing of boundaries and the normalization of hatred.”

That an Israeli company would work with an artist who’s been disparaging of the Jewish people is confounding. After all, London’s massive Wireless Festival, where Ye was scheduled to headline over three nights in July, called off its 2026 edition entirely once the artist’s visa was revoked. “We are clear that the past comments and actions of this artist are offensive and wrong, and not reflective of London’s values,” a spokesperson for London Mayor Sadiq Khan told Rolling Stone last month. One has to wonder if the Israeli staffers at Live Nation Central Asia had any such moral qualms, or if it’s simply a matter of business.

It appears the concert giant made the quiet, if economically sensible, decision to move the small Israel team to nearby territories, dubbed Central Asia. Operating out of Tbilisi made sense as well. A three-hour flight from Tel Aviv, Georgia is a popular tourist destination for Israelis, and has reportedly seen a steady increase in Israeli visitors since the Oct. 7 attack. Its Jewish roots are also deep, dating back hundreds of years.

As a former republic of the Soviet Union, Georgians fought against the German army during World War II — sharing a common enemy in the Nazis — at a high human cost on the battlefield. Jewish citizens, however, faced persecution both before and after the war, as Soviet authorities clamped down on Jewish life in the form of arrests, arson, or other violent antisemitic incidents, which continued into the 1960s. It declared its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Today, it’s estimated the native Jewish population in Georgia numbers between 500 to 1,000 residents.

West has been making overtures to the Jewish community in recent months. In January, he took responsibility for his past behavior — which included wearing a Ku Klux Klan robe while spewing inflammatory rhetoric — with a full-page Wall Street Journal ad. “I owe a huge apology once again for everything that I said that hurt the Jewish and Black communities in particular,” he wrote. “All of it went too far.” Skeptics referred to the ad as marketing, paving the way for his Bully album, which released in March and debuted at Number Two on the Billboard 200.

“It’s very disturbing,” one prominent Israeli music executive tells Rolling Stone. “Everything Kanye has said and done against the Jewish community is unforgettable, and for many people, deeply hurtful. At the same time, it raises difficult questions about where the industry draws the line between business, entertainment, and accountability.”

To that end, a report by Israeli news outlet mako published last week suggested a future concert by Ye in Israel was in the works, with the rapper allegedly fielding multiple offers. That’s unlikely, two industry insiders say, seeing as the artist has essentially been locked out of some of the world’s biggest touring markets: the U.K., France, and potentially other countries with strong anti-hate speech laws. But not impossible?
