Despite it's history of inspiring revolutions, a lot of communist theory is about coats, which makes you wonder why the Tsar didn't just give them the coats before it came to all that

Marx called for a dictatorship of proletariat, which would be very different to the then ongoing dictatorship of the antiletariat. To answer what a letariat is, I visited the university of Cambridge

Karl Marx wasn't a Marxist though. It's the people who come after him who call themselves Marxists. Mao wasn't a Maoist etc.

(He also said he wasn't a Marxist but that was in response to people calling themselves Marxist who he thought were wrong in their analysis)

Marx was a Hegelian.

Marxism in shambles.

Northerlion's daughter when you ask her who her favorite British satirical documentarian is (she's incredibly based):

Nominative determinism?

In Michael Heinrich's biography of Marx, he says that the name comes from 'Marcus'. It doesn't mean much, but I still think about it occasionally.

Do you mean that first book of his upcoming 4-5 book series on Marx? If so what did you think of it, it’s on my bookshelf right now, been planning on reading it this year.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah. I have a bad habit of quitting books about 1/3 in once I get the gist and the initial hook is gone. That’s what happened with this book.

It was decent enough; about as dry as you would expect of a biography, but still interesting. The first book is about his upbringing and young adulthood, and contained a lot of facts I didn’t know about, like how Marx’s thought was influenced by his close relationship with his father-in-law.
