Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.
As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.
Thank you and happy chatting!

It wouldn't be so bad if these people were in the least bit interested in bettering themselves in any way
But no, so many, so deeply incurious as to declare themselves above all reproach when all they know is nothing
Like, how the fuck do you live to be my age and have no desire to meet new people, go to new places and interact with new ideas?
Absolutely busted society
Incurious is the best way to describe it. They'll happily ask me questions, but they've never bothered to just google it or anything themselves. Like they can't imagine trying to learn anything themselves, that they're just comfortable in their ignorance.
To counter this, there are people, such as myself, that would rather ask another human being rather than just search a topic on google to help generate conversation and create camaraderie.
That's true, I have had plenty of interesting conversations where people were genuinely curious and interested, but this is more like a child asking about the world rather than discussing the idea with another adult, it's kind of hard to explain, I'm not sure I described the problem too well in the post, it's not really supposed to be "Americans dumb" and more like "Some Americans seem to have the knowledge base of a child and that makes it hard to work with them in an adult context."
I see. That makes a lot more sense. Thank you for clarifying.
I'll second this. On the political side of things, I find most americans have a sort of ramshackle, built from first principles, materialist and class based understanding... but only of domestic politics. All that falls away as soon as you talk about literally anywhere else on the globe.
i'm too tired boss
hogs, covid; covid, time, money; they think FDR-ism is a new idea
And people call me self-flagellant when I say we cannot ever be integrated into a truly proletarian society and the best outcome is we get placed out of the way where no more harm can be done. Like no this is extremely easy analysis.
