Assume it's something they're doing just for the 3rd one. The way it's described sounds kinda like FF X-2's dress sphere system where they swap out outfits to change how the character works.

I sorta assumed the remakes weren't made for me, I tried playing the first part and got to the arena fight with the giant house before burning out. I haven't touched a mainline FF game in 20 years though

Me playing any videogame these days where skills are tied to equipment i'll find the ugliest dookie dookie dogshit early on with a skill i really like and then every single thing i find after that is "better" but replaces the skill i like so i'm effectively playing a loot driven game unable to interact with the loot

love it, great game design
