For much of my life, people have persecuted me for my beliefs. I deeply care about this planet and the life* on it, so my diet reflects a deep ethical commitment to biocentrism*. Yet frequently I'll be in a restaurant ordering fish and fending off accusations of being contrarian or Catholic. People believe it's just a fad or a phase instead of celebrating life* in all its forms*.

We pescatarians need to stand up for ourselves collectively. We need to be LOUD and PROUD about who we are, about what we do, and about the world we could create if everyone became pescatarian. What we need is to copy the tactics of the civil rights movements before us and establish a day, then a whole month, celebrating our heritage and identity. We need pescatarian pride to spread awareness of pescatarians in our community and show that we are a united front.

I propose that henceforth all pescatarians stand up and celebrate 11 September as our day. We will live in the shadows no longer. This is the era of radical pescatarianism and by claiming our day we draw a line in the sand for society. Next Monday, fly our flag and be proud.

That's a harmful stereotype to associate Pescatarian-Americans with Catholicism. What if I said "Oh you're Italian? So you must not be able to read." You would have someone read that sentence to you and it would hurt your feelings.

What are you saying? Do you think fish is too good for the Irish?

I'm saying pescatarianism is widely practiced throughout many cultures. Associating it with Catholics drags us down to their level.

As a recovering Catholic and pescatarian I agree. We are beyond belief

I wasn't saying all pescatarians would join in the fish-fry. I just thought, as a member of another religious group, known for ritual pescatarianism could use their religious traditions to reclaim that day from Muslim extremists.
