And while the political environment has worsened for the president and his party, Democrats have yet to convince voters that they offer a compelling alternative. The poll indicated that Democrats have not improved their political brand, even after more than a year of trying to demonstrate that they understand the concerns of voters and can stand up to Mr. Trump.

Just 26 percent of voters said they were satisfied with the Democratic Party.

The discontent includes a significant number of Democrats who expressed reservations about their own party. Forty-four percent of Democrats described themselves as unsatisfied, while just 23 percent of Republicans said the same about their party.

“They’re just not fighting back hard enough in my eyes,” said Matthew Berryhill, 35, a recruiter from Marietta, Ga., a pivotal battleground area in the state’s key Senate race this year, who described himself as a progressive Democrat. “They come out with strong statements and strong words, and no action to back it up.”

Have you thanked the Supreme Leader today for defeating the GOP in Pokemon Go to the Polls?

70% approved by Republicans which is half the fucking country

It's why this place can't be saved. This country is fucking COOKED

Yeah it's super fucked seeing shit like the % of people who think you can just work hard to better your life going from 67% to 47% in the last ten years, that's still half of fucking everyone just so brainfucked they can't see reality in front of them

Never has there been a populace in greater need of re-education

Good thing each one of them owns 10 rifles

It's a poll of voters. Let's say that's 50% of the country, and Republican voters are 50% of that, or 25% of the total population. 70% of 25% is 17.5%, or a little over 1 out of every 6 people. That's a big problem if they're organized (and they are, but only to an extent), but far from insurmountable.

My takeaway from the 93-5 split among Dems is that this is a tailor-made agitation point among them. Virtually any Dem you talk to is opposed to the war, but there's been no serious party effort to stop it. They won't even talk about primarying John Fetterman, who isn't even a Democrat anymore and doesn't even want to be there, over killing the War Powers vote.

I fully agree that this country is fucking cooked, but let's be accurate with the numbers here.

70% of Republican voters is only like 8% of the total US population, not 50%. See @trabpukcip@hexbear.net's comment here. I'm taking his word for it on the number of registered republicans and the total population is 342 million. 27 million is about 7.9% of 342 million.

So that 70% of Republican voters is a good bit less than even a tenth of the country, not half.

Somehow that feels worse

Also, the bigger problem is that the vast majority of Americans are hollowed out dullards who have no strong opinions about anything and will be corralled into whatever nazi bullshit like the cattle they are, so even the percentage that doesn’t approve can be cowed into supporting it if you offer them a chocolate bar

And every last one of them considers themselves a "free thinker" who "does their own research".

the facebook mom i work with has shifted from right wing coded conspiracies (MAHA nonsense, antivax) to more left wing over the last year (network state, thiel, billionaire cabals, etc). i could probably easily get her to listen to TrueAnon but i'm waiting until Liz is back to actually pull that trigger. i've been working on explaining the difference between "conspiracy theories" and parapolitics to her, and she's been receptive.

what's funny is this woman is very collectivist at her core. she would make a great comrade and organizer if the brainworms could be dislodged. she lives and breathes mutual aid and builds connections with everyone in her community. then just pumps them full of every ridiculous antivax and sovcit conspiracy she has heard while getting food and resources to people who need it.

there is legit potential out there but the internet has really poisoned minds in ways that there is no simple antidote to.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
