Barack Obama and the Democratic congress passed the ACA, help recover from the housing crash, passed protections to prevent another crash. Biden passed funding for green sources of energy and chip production in the US. During the Bush years, Democrats in congress passed amnesty for undocumented immigrants and a path to citizenship. The "2-sides are the same" crowd are either uninformed, or malicious

Barack Obama also spent years illegally drone striking innocent people in Yemen and bragged about how good he was at killing people.

As someone who kept my house only because of Obama's programs, I don't think the latter quite justifies the former.

Obamas housing rescue created the environment where corporations now own huge chucks of family homes. A majority of the groups that financed/backed the program were private investors and hedge funds. So if the person defaulted, that house became the property of a hedge fund for rental property.

Let's explore this drone strike crap the Republicans sold and everyone bought.

  • The war was on going before he was elected.

  • drone tech advanced and managed to alter how US operated. Few people remember the amount of casualties early in Iraq/Afghanistan. Drone bombing replaced door to door raids that resulted in more soldiers dying.

  • calling the drone strikes illegal is roughly silly. Congress supported their use in military activity, that makes it legal. Failing to hit the right target or hitting the wrong target doesn't make it illegal, as evil as that sounds. The alternative before targeted drone strikes was carpet bombing.

Comparatively Obama ran the war in the middle east better than any president has handled a conflict in generations there's literally no arguing that. Should we have been there? Could he have pulled out of the war? Should strategy have been different to reduce innocent casualties? Those are questions you can ask but stating blindly how drone strikes were illegal and making him out to a warmonger is genuinely just not true.

Counter point on either end of Obama, Bush had I think it was 3,000 soldiera die under his command? Trump removed the rule requiring drone strikes to be public records and also has waged several completely illegal wars.

Obama hate is fuckin silly.

"La la la, I can't hear you!"

You're a child.

[-] 7101334@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I'll take "child" over "war criminal apologist" any day

[-] deft@lemmy.wtf -1 points 4 days ago

You're taking ignorance over any of it.

Imagine telling someone a truth and they intentionally become so obtuse.

In my country we call that a Republican. They dislike knowledge and when faced with information that affects their world view, they reject it outright.

[-] 7101334@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I don't really care what you do in your country.

[-] deft@lemmy.wtf 0 points 4 days ago

Apparently you do cause you're talking about it

[-] 7101334@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

...I'm not, actually. Unless you mean that "what you do in your country" is apologize for war criminals? If so, true if you're from Germany lmao

This seems less "bOtH sIdEs" and more of a call to reform the DNC, an organization that doesn't even pretend to promise progressive policies as OP suggests so much as it actively fights against progressive candidates. Also, several of the wins you listed are not so great. The ACA is a Heritage Foundation plan that delays the USA joining the civilized world with universal coverage. The CHIPS act sounds good in principle except it's corporate welfare that hyper inflated the AI bubble.

Which is why people who don't want to reform the DNC keep trying to recast it as "both sides." It's a comfortable thought-terminating cliche.

The ACA is a Heritage Foundation plan that delays the USA joining the civilized world with universal coverage.

Or, you know, it was the best they could do since the GOP and Congress exist and were fighting tooth and nail against any expansion of coverage.

But hey, if we can't have universal healthcare, we might as well not try to make any improvement at all, right?

The ACA gave me affordable healthcare when I had NONE when I was younger.

[-] Folstar@lemmus.org 7 points 5 days ago

Cool sarcasm, but again, the ACA further enshrines our broken system and makes universal coverage even less likely to happen. They could have greatly expanded Medicare & Medicaid coverage, but instead went with the Heritage Foundation plan. The Obama/3rd Way practice of pre-compromising is a big part of how we got to where we are now. Where can the right wing party go when the "left wing" party is pushing right wing policies?

[-] mattyroses@lemmy.today 1 points 5 days ago

The Democrats controlled both houses and the Presidency when the ACA passed In fact, they briefly held a supermajority in 2009.

[-] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago

For a whole 7 weeks, where they passed everything I listed

[-] mattyroses@lemmy.today 1 points 4 days ago

I love this. It's not enough for the Democrats to control both houses, not even enough to have a supermajority . . . Now it has to be for years.

Meanwhile, the GOP has no issue forcing their agenda through with far less power.

passed the ACA

By nearly all objective metrics US healthcare outcomes are significantly worse now than when the ACA was passed, even before COVID. It has made the existing problems worse.

help recover from the housing crash, passed protections to prevent another crash.

The working class has still not recovered from the housing crash. At no point since has the lost wealth returned.

The "passed protections" don't protect anyone they simply mask and slow the current crash that we are now experiencing-- reducing chaos and making that wealth transfer smoother.

funding for green sources of energy and chip production

As well as the DHS and police state expansions that Trump is currently weaponizing. And those 2 are arguable at best considering the role which that funding source has played in the proliferation of data centers since.

amnesty for undocumented immigrants and a path to citizenship

Are you referring to the "U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021" which despite many news reports did not get enacted, "Keeping Families Together" which was quickly adjudicated as "unlawful and unenforceabe", or the executive order re-instating DACA which was one of the key mechanisms by which Obama became "deporter in chief"?

Misinformed is not better than uninformed.
