No, they crave any low cost EV.

[-] MeetMeAtTheMovies@hexbear.net 23 points 17 hours ago

Which country is producing EVs that cost less than $10k? big-honk

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 4 points 15 hours ago

They don’t care where it comes from, is my point.

[-] AF_R@hexbear.net 5 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

No, they really do care.

It happened with the Japanese automakers, and it is happening worldwide with Chinese automakers right now.

And it’s every industry. Not just auto.

Nobody buys American cars unless they are doing it out of patriotism. There is no objective reason to buy a Ford over a Toyota.

If the identical product is made in Peru, people will prefer to buy the Chinese product.

If the product is made for cheaper in Peru, people will still prefer to buy the Chinese product.

It really does not take much critical thought to arrive at this conclusion.

Go ahead, stay in your bubble. It benefits me more anyway.

[-] Chana@hexbear.net 28 points 20 hours ago

Chinese only please. Less fed spyware.

[-] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 14 points 19 hours ago

no, i specifically want the Chinese stuff.

it's intriguing to me

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 1 points 15 hours ago

Why? If the identical product was made in Peru, would you still want it from China? It’s a car not a tank.

[-] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 6 points 13 hours ago

Their styling stands out, also there are things inherent to being from China i find more fascinating, especially not being the primary market to these vehicles, similar to 1980’s JDM vehicles have features inherent for it’s primary markets over our domestic products

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 1 points 11 hours ago

So nothing specific just because China. Got it.

[-] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 3 points 10 hours ago

Shit’s way cheaper. And I am curious about their cars, nothing wrong with that.

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 0 points 10 hours ago

So you want a cheap EV, and you don’t really care where it’s from. Additionally, you are curious about their cars.

(There is nothing wrong with being curious about their cars)

[-] Grownbravy@hexbear.net 4 points 10 hours ago

On top of that, the Chinese manufacturers seem willing to add more creature comforts or (admittedly) useless features. It’s cheaper and made to a vision outside what my domestic market provides, and way more enticing than any EV i could think of now.

Probably the best part is cutting out dealers because they’ve put the domestic industry in a terrible position overcharging for every available make and model for sale, thinking that the market can hold the high prices they demand because they still think people still have spare cash from covid. Now their overstock inventory hasnt moved for some up to a half a year, and they’re trying to cut prices down because their stock is bought via financing, which I’ve recently learned “punishes” dealers if stock doesnt move after 3 months by shooting up the interest rates, lighting a fire under their ass.

This is a problem of their own making, and having a new competitor helps shake up these markets

Now if Peru entered the automotive market with something it would be interesting for other reasons, I know Peru doesnt have the industry to make EVs and i dont find it fruitful to think in these kinds of hypotheticals. Their needs would produce a different kind of vehicle entirely

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 1 points 9 hours ago

Seems like I might not be wording this in a way that is being understood. To me this is the kind of question that is yes or no. Let me try again:

If an identical product was made by a company in your country by local workers, would you still want it from China?

[-] bunnossin@hexbear.net 1 points 1 hour ago

you say chinese cars are cheaper and better, but if american cars were also cheap and good you wouldnt want the chinese cars. checkmate liberal smuglord

[-] egg1918@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago

Yes. The Chinese one is cheaper and better.

This is like your 10th comment basically saying the same thing, you seem to really be struggling with this. It's a very simple concept

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 0 points 5 hours ago

Well, it’s not cheaper or better, it’s the same price and it’s identical.

So, local manufacturer for the same price and identical or China?

[-] Are_Euclidding_Me@hexbear.net 3 points 5 hours ago

That's just such a ridiculous hypothetical that it's hard to engage with. The US doesn't make cheap, good cars, and for those of us who live here it's simply laughable that they ever could.

If someone came to me and said "here's an ev made by an american company that's as good as one made by a Chinese company", I'd likely laugh in their face and then buy the Chinese ev if I'm in the market for a car. Because I simply would never believe the claim that an american company made a good electric car, and furthermore I'd assume whoever was trying to convince me that they had was probably a paid shill or a grifter of some description. And I'd almost certainly be right.

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 1 points 5 hours ago

The point of a hypothetical is that it’s hypothetical.

What Chinese cars have you driven?

[-] Are_Euclidding_Me@hexbear.net 3 points 5 hours ago

Alright. So usually hypotheticals have some point to them, some idea or argument you're trying to use them to convey. Would you mind telling me what point you're using this hypothetical to convey? Maybe then I can understand what answer you're looking for. I am legitimately curious, I hope this doesn't come off as trolling or dismissive!

I haven't driven any Chinese cars. Sure would love to some day! Have you seen the range some of them get? And they actually make decent small cars too! I really hope they start getting imported to america in large numbers soon

[-] on8wingedangel@hexbear.net 17 points 20 hours ago

Nope, I specifically want a Chinese one.

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 14 points 20 hours ago

Mostly because CATL is the largest battery maker in the world, China has way less expensive EVs than anywhere else. You can get a solid range EV with tons of nice cutting edge features, and it still costs less than just about any competitive offering. This year's cool new feature is headlights that are digital projectors, so vehicles are mobile drive-in movie theaters now.

[-] Lemmyglad@hexbear.net 14 points 18 hours ago

Turn on my high beam yellow Parenti on the family assault vehicle that just cut me off.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 15 points 20 hours ago

nope. I want a chinese one as even at the same cost its better quality, better features.

[-] outandinburger@ttrpg.network 0 points 11 hours ago

How do you know it’s better quality if you haven’t been in one ;)

[-] stink@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 hours ago

How do you know the sky is blue if you've never left your basement?
