That's basically Nintendo's whole shtick. Instead of spending time and effort on story/characters they spend it on gameplay instead. Same deal with Mario. Reusable characters and stories that enable the team to focus on mechanics instead.
It used to baffle me that people paid attention to the stories behind games in the first place. Sure, there's some kind of excuse for the game. But actually getting into it?
It's a platformer, who cares about the lore of the game world?
I've always had this read that video game stories can make a game a lot better if they're good, and make it a lot worse if they're bad, but if they're just kinda generic people are perfectly fine to ignore them.
They never released The Mushroom Kingdom Historia and people don't make 19 hour long analysis videos on how world 1 level 3 of super Mario bros is evidence that it takes place further in the timeline than Mario kart wii because that level looks like it could be an 8 bit version of mushroom gorge viewed from the side because where the pits are sorta matches and the brick style floor leading to the mushroom platforms indicates there used to be a road. Or saying Bowser was a tragic villain in Super Mario World cause he's a single father etc. Zelda fans have no chill
I see you haven't visited the Mario communities on Reddit crashing out over the lore and timeline of the Marioverse.
The starfox subreddit has been haunting my recs sense the Mario movie and those guys are in another level. I shoildnt be surprised. Im pretty sure they outright resent story at Nintendo
They're Nintendo fans (gamers + Disney adults) and furries, so yeah lol.
The only kind of plot any video game needs: Single screen, action starts.
Damn right
ahem
Jumpman
it would be really funny if Jumpman returned to the series and everyone just acted like he was a seperate person from Mario all along.
