So many breadtubers fell off hard, but I struggle to think of any who have fallen off as hard as Contrapoints:

  • Both sidesing the Palestinian genocide
  • Buddying up with Hillary
  • Anti-veganism
  • Being racist about tofu
  • Weird ultraleftism about a DSA event in a church

And that's just off the top of my head.

lmao, she hates vegans and tofu? she is probably just farming for attention

Self own: admitting publically you've never been invited to a home cooked meal by a Chinese person before.

Thinking tofu has no texture just shows you've only had the silken tofu white supermarkets sell. Thinking it has no taste means it was cooked CIA style (the 2nd worst CIA, the Culinary Institute of America).

Thinking it has no taste means it was cooked CIA style (the 2nd worst CIA, the Culinary Institute of America).

flashbacks to the chris and steph video about mapo doufu where the CIA version is just bland tofu corners with soggy overcooked veg

Is that the one with Kissinger's recipe?

[-] JustSo@hexbear.net 48 points 1 month ago

It's common to mistake intelligence for the capacity to be re-educated but do not be fooled comrades.

The intelligent liberal is simply capable of weaving a more effective shield of deception around the black hole they call an ideology.

[-] defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 1 month ago

Is it weird that I unironically like plain tofu?

[-] Mindfury@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

tofu puffs are literally just deep fried tofu and I love them on their own
the process makes them even more absorbent when it comes to taking on flavour, especially in a soup (laksa being my reference)
they're absolutely fucking goated

[-] defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 month ago

I've never tried tofu puffs. I'll have to give that a go.

[-] jimmyjohnsandwich9@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

I don't think its weird. When I am cooking myself something with tofu I end up eating like a third of the block before I even start to season it lmao

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

vegan-tofu unbothered, unseasoned, in my juice and flourishing

[-] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 month ago

Especially silken tofu ๐Ÿ˜‹

[-] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

Hell yeh me too I'll eat it straight from the container

[-] Diva@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Nah, often when I'm chopping up tofu I'll eat a piece or two before cooking the rest

[-] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 35 points 1 month ago

I want Natalie to eat boiled beef and then look her audience in the eyes and lie to their faces by saying that has any flavor.

You know what tastes so great about steak? The fucking salted butter and spices you cooked it in! Fun fact: You can cook pretty much anything in salted fat and spices and it'll come out just fine.

Damn now I want some curry...

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

If you boil something in water you are extracting the flavor into a stock. Stocks are commonly used for their flavor in cooking around the world. In France just like in China.

[-] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

That's fair. Maybe air fried beef then?

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

I don't have an air fryer or a steak but I've seen some people claim that air frying a frozen steak is actually the best way of preparing it.

[-] mbfalzar@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

When I was in Japan, getting the yakiniku beef and air frying it as it was (no additional seasonings, just whatever preservative was used) then eating it with white rice was my cheap, tasty lunch

[-] Sneakytrickyyy@hexbear.net 31 points 1 month ago

Unrepentant crackerism tofu-cool

[-] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

Bit idea: force-feeding stinky tofu to people who think tofu is flavorless.

[-] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

Damn, and I have to tell myself to stop eating so much tofu and diversify my protien sources. Tofu is fucking delicious.

[-] Lowleekun@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Shit. Hard to believe i watched a moron like this. Well many had their lib years I guess.

[-] Sneakytrickyyy@hexbear.net 49 points 1 month ago

To the contrary, there was never a "falling off" moment, they've always been meek liberals, their videos didn't have any meat, any substance to them, they just seemed radical to many because YT was pushing people like charlie-kirk shapiro-gavel and peterson-pill-dinner for the first time, if you go back to some of the videos from the "golden era" your jaw will drop at how... pointless they are, it's just continuous meandering, and I don't think they really even helped in the "deradicalisation" of normies, they just turned some hogs into liberals, yippie how great is that shrug-outta-hecks

[-] larrikin99@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

I was always trying to point out at the time that her videos lacked any depth, she barely investigated any idea or challenged her own ideas with counter examples. it was just a handful of quotes cited to some important people, as if you could begin to understand the work of those authors from those quotes alone, and you were left with an 3 hour video which doesn't even have 25% of the content you'd be presented in a college level lecture, for which a single topic of study would contain 30 such lectures a semester.

I was always shouted down with "le pipeline" and "that's too hard, you want everything to be unfun and serious all the time. you're gonna tell me to read theory next? I'm actually in these streets, doing direct action and mutual aid, making a real difference I can't tell you about because opsec" and also "it's good for us to having someone making introductory[sic] videos with high production values" which was baffling, She wasn't like Captain Disillusion or Chris Young, since clearly the money wasn't being used to give the content more clarity or scope.

[-] Sneakytrickyyy@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

If you're familiar with Yugopnik (yeah ik another YT mf, sorry) his leftist funnel theory has these "tumour growths" that represent people on "the pipeline" whose only goal is to suck up potential baby leftists and retain them as an audiance, thus preventing them from going further downwards, it was referenced and basically confirmed that she was one of those unnamed tumours mentioned in the vid, lol

[-] MayoPete@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

Under Capitalism, it's a major contradiction for content creators that they have to choose between making content that is useful vs. Stuff that gets eyeballs. But then these people all have Patreons so they shouldn't care about making an "unpopular" if it's what their Pateron supporters want. Seems like the same problem all creative face where having a roof over their heads beats being "authentic" and homeless.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I keep hearing people say breadtubers fell off, but apart from Natalie and Philosophytube is it really true?
edit: I guess some more news too, but Katy has always been a massive lib and they're good friends with robert evans who's a massive fed, so the only surprise is that I thought it would be anything else. So no way of saying if they fell off or always sucked

[-] WokePalpatine@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

I guess it depends on if one thought breadtubers were going to lead a vanguard party or not.

[-] MarxusMaximus@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago
[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

Nothing bad, just kind of fell into the rabbithole of focusing a bunch on costumes and set design instead of making videos of substance. The Chernobyl video was kind of eh, but that's nothing too bad.

[-] MarxusMaximus@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

I can't remember if I've seen that video and I haven't really watched her videos in years but I always got the feeling she had very little interest in being a communist revolutionary and was just a theatre kid who liked philosophy and had left-leaning views. I was worried when you put her in the same sentence as contrapoints

[-] Sneakytrickyyy@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

I only really recall her putting her acting career before her activism, making a statement about a genocide is not as important as playing a Glub Shitto in a Star Wars Show, I've heard people say she's donated to Palestinian aid orgs, hey more than I've ever done, but paradoxically she also went on to talk about the "rising anti-semitism" as well, like read the room goddamn, never watched her, never will, too late to parade around in costumes, that "essay art form" should have died 10 years ago

[-] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Nothing bad

Reposting my comment about her doing a nazi propaganda
