I'm constantly astonished by the number of people who genuinely believe AI exists and that the term "AI" peddled by the media is anything other than spin for glorified aggregator programs
General Intelligence does not exist, there are no sentient computer lifeforms on this planet
It's like people thinking Ask Jeeves is a real dude
It is a little amusing seeing some people talk about Skynet after talking to a chatbot
It passes from eyebrow-raising to distressing, when a friend I used to be able to talk with about class struggle, now interprets everything in terms of species-competition with the machine people. I try to tell him about the AI bubble and the desperation of capitalists facing a declining rate of profit, but you see he saw a netflix documentary about robots and now has the inside track
