A few months ago I thought there was no way he'd be stupid enough to dismantle the institutions that keep the US in power, because monied interests that depend on it would have him deleted, sent to prison for real, or at the very least impached. But holy shit the lack of opposition to his antics, other than some performative fingerwagging from liberals, is amazing.
I don't even know what to believe anymore.
The truth is the presidency is actually an enormously powerful position and there is no secret cabal of intelligent, strategic capitalists behind the scenes who can press a button to override it. Ruling classes have always been riven by factionalism, and the modern American ruling class is at the apex of this due to generations of imperial hegemony degrading their ability to analyze, understand, and respond to real material conditions.
Thank Bush for that.
