reciprocal tariffs

So is the party line here that these are just a reaction to other countries' tariffs and that if those tariffs are removed the US ones will be too? I have no doubt that they're lying and calling things "tariffs" that really aren't that, but if that's the logic then this move makes marginally more sense.

edit: okay I saw the thing where they decided tariffs are when you have a trade deficit and that is fucking hilarious. Does Don really expect other countries to start buying American shit? Our stuff is obscenely overpriced at the global level! The only way that happens is if he intentionally weakens the dollar, and if he does that we can't import anything anymore.
