I'm more and more convinced of the theory that Imperial decline is accelerated because only its builders understood it properly, the successors genuinely believe the justifications given by the builders and thus self-sabotage it. What a timeline.

So far it's the explanation that makes the most sense, though I don't discount the possibility of being part of a genuine purpose.

Yep I have made basically the exact same argument for years. It has been decades in the making.
