Think I'm gonna go to a bookstore while I wait for the bus today once I get off work, love my silly bookstores
My local used bookplace shut down ages ago, very sad!

The one I'm heading to is local but not for used books, it usually has plenty of cool shit though. I mean it's the only place I could find Susanna Clarke's novel Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell so it's automatically the best bookstore in town since it carries the best god damn author's entire body of work.
There are many such cases actually.

Honestly I spend like barely any time in manga sections despite reading a ton of manga. Idk comics in general for me are a digital thing, the only manga I buy physically is my beloved Witch Hat Atelier.
I read My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness in like 2016, took almost two years to get localised lol
Its funny you say that, because comics are the only physical books I buy these days. I'd like normal ones too, but no room :p

I feel like every bookstore has its particular vibe and is nice in its own way. Idk I just like books I guess.
I don't find that's always the case, I've been in sone that felt sterile.
True, but even in the sterile ones I can usually find something or other hidden amongst all of the shity self help and mediocre conservative history books. I treat it like thrifting, I check absolutelt everything since there's always something someone has missed that might be worthwhile.
Non sterile ones are definitely way better though.
If I go to the bookstore it's to find obscure stuff that I can't find online. I mainly use an ereader so part of the experience of going into those places is to book hunt comfortably and find the stuff I can't get access to in a friendly space that doesn't feel clinical.

Yeah that's a big difference then, I don't read digitally 99% of the time since I vastly prefer the physicality of a real book. And I like to just browse seeing all the options, it lets me find cool stuff I might not be into otherwise. The comfort of a place is certainly important too but idk, I feel like my main goal of finding books supercedes that comfort.
Oh yeah occult and adjacent stuff is a pain in the ass to find, especially if you're like me and your interest is in historical occultism rather than modern stuff. Being in academics helps wildly with being able to read that stuff but if you're out of it I'm sure it feels like being shit out of luck in regards to certain books.
I read digitally because I can carry my library and have it all backed up. I can read in the dark and won't damage the books. Plus it is purely about the content. I can find most books online that most stock.
I'm into it all, the history right through modern stuff too. I can find people to get stuff that is out of print also. Some stuff just won't show up in stores
Oh that's cool! In my case I was a lot more specific in my occult interests, specifically I'm really into gnosticism and rosicrucianism. In the latter's case there's genuinely a chance I've accidentally become an academic expert on the subject I have read so much. And yeah I don't think I've ever seen a single of those books I've read in a store. Hell half of them I could only find on my academic sites.

I've read on a lot along with the formation of hermetic order through to crowley and thoth. I've read on the angels and demons and the goetia along with various forms or magic, herbs and the metaphysical and various cultures and crossover. I'm into the esoteric ^^
