I mentioned Gender Outlaw to a cis comrade. “Idc I’m ace.” Then said everyone’s on the spectrum and their attention deficit and computer caused. :( just because you can complain about capitalist brain worms doesn’t mean you’re free.
I... what does aseuxality have to do with Gender Outlaw?
Agender people seem to be overwhelmingly ace and autistic (based on my experience in the subreddit, which could be far from representative). Doesn't seem like that much of a stretch to see how someone who hasn't really thought about gender much and doesn't seem to believe in autism could make that leap of "ace -> gender doesn't matter to me" without realizing they're missing something.
But not all ace people are agender...? I guess if someone "doesn't believe in autism" anything goes though...
I meant to suggest the "cis comrad" specifically may projecting their gender experience onto other aces just like they are projecting their autism onto apparently everyone. And because they seem to avoid gender theory, they may have no clue they are doing that.
I could still see myself sorta reacting in a parallel way and not being interested in gender theory like a decade ago and at least internally blaming it on something that would only seem tangentially related (presumed autism in my case instead of ace because I had no clue I was ace at that time, but I likely would have also included lack of interest in dating or sex as another reason why gender seemed so pointless for me specifically)
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh okay I see! Typical that it was the devilish distrustyworthy cis, my fried brain simply could not see. Soz.
Idk, tbf some of it does seem absurd from an aceish pov, but they don’t know that. Pondering gender is for people who think people are attractive? It’s kinda true, and they prefer comfort to self expression… But yeah, it’s a good read for anyone - especially any Marxist. I mentioned they probably don’t conform to gender standards totally, but they didn’t care. Weird being reminded most people don’t self crit all the time (I do).
I'm ace and I can see beauty and can tell when someone is attractive. I wanted to learn more from other peoples experience, it's also a good book for anyone non binary, and as you said has some Marxist leanings. From what you've said it sounds like a misunderstanding of ace spec or various different identities on the spectrum.
So from an aceish pov - uh no? What on earth makes it so that ace people do not ponder gender??? I am sincerely confused. Not mad, but baffled somewhat.
