Yeah, those Dreamcast worlds just seemed really optimistic. Really contrary to the dark and gritty stuff the next generation would bring. But there was so much cool, stylish, experimental shit, too. Even stuff set in the real world like crazy taxy or ready to rumble boxing had such a great feel to them. Then there's that space channel 5, jet set radio Tokyo fashion that was super iconic. Just loved that system, and I was so sad that it didn't succeed.
Yeah, I remember the memory card things. That was a pretty neat gimmick, especially after the popularity of tamogachis. They often opened up new avenues of play for the games.
I don't remember gamma's story, it's been so long but I do remember it being very emotional.
Idk, I feel like people shit on sonic adventure a lot, and I never got it. People seem to like sonic adventure 2, which I think kind of sucks.
But I have to admit when it came out when I was am angsty teenager, I really liked shadow the hedgehog (the character, not his game)
Also, honorable mention to Power Stone. Loved that game! And it really carries that Dreamcast aesthetic.
don't get me started on crazy taxi. i went to a barcade a few months ago and was watching some guy play it on a dreamcast they had set up. i was sitting there, pressure building inside my head because he couldn't do a crazy dash or anything. just a miserable performance from this man
anyway, the point i'm trying to make is that the world would be a better place if the dreamcast succeeded.
you should go back and play both sonic adventures! they're both on PC and can be easily modded to improve the graphics and even restore the dreamcast models in the director's cut edition of the first game. shadow is definitely very edgy but i also really liked his story and really how dark the second game got.
i'll check out power stone soon! honestly i never considered the possibility of dreamcast emulation
Hah, I'm kind of notorious in my friend group for making this argument unprompted.
Have you seen bomb rush cyberfunk? The spiritual successor to jet set radio?
yes! i played and beat it and then i went on youtube to figure out how to do the secret stuff. it's so much fun. have you played it too???
No, but I should put it on my list. I'm guessing this is a recommendation?
oh my god, yes. it is so much fun. it's weird and dark despite being bright and cheery, the music is great and the story is engaging. you really end up caring about all of the characters by the end. also, multiple modes of transportation! i'll send a link if you wanna steal it online
Cool! I put it in my list. I probably won't get to it for months tho lol
if you don't mind me asking, could i see the list? it's ok if not but i'm interested in what you're waiting to play
Well, I'm currently occupied with Final Fantasy 11, which I can't believe I've been playing for like 6 months now. But it was an obsession for me back when it came out, and I'm looking to finish it for good. I love it so much
Then I've got a few things:
Immortality
Fear the Spotlight
A Summer's End - Hong Kong 1986
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Dragonball Z Sparking Zero (when it comes out)
And there's probably some big name title that will pop up.
After that, I wanna hop into Final Fantasy XIV with my wife
those all look fun! a few very nonconventional picks, i love the aesthetic of FMV games.
have you played Dragonball Z Kakarot? i thought it was pretty fun despite being a little bit formulaic
Yeah, I have no idea what to expect from immortality which is why I wanna check it out! I'm also really excited for A Highland Song because it's from the studio who made Heaven's Vault, which is a game I really adore.
I haven't played kakarot. I'm not really into DBZ anymore, but I remembered how much fun I had dumping hours into Budokai Tenkaichi 3, and I wanted to scratch that itch. I did some research and people said you should play Kakarot or Xenoverse, but then I saw the news about Sparking Zero which is supposed to be Budokai Tenkaichi 4! So I decided to just wait it out until that one came out
