I dont have the ability to tag it NSFW. If you edit your original post you can tag it NSFW. source: https://lemmy.world/post/463392 If you editing your post, please consider replacing your example with something that steers well clear of people's characteristics. See this section of the rules for more details: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/#1-attacks-on-users-or-groups

This comment got reported. And while trolling is not allowed. Attacking an individual is also not allowed. So I'm not sure if attacking them for being a troll is allowed.

If you think a post is trolling (ie: just trying to stir up anger rather than trying to make an argument for something), please report it. If you think a poster is serial trolling please point it out in the report.

I'm open to feedback.

Swear words are fine. Attacking people's weight (or age, sexuality, gender, etc) should be avoided.

I'll admit that there is gray area in this rule. On Lemmy there are many instances of posts mocking celebrities for different characteristics but the posts seem to be permitted if the celebrities are largely disliked.

I'll see if I can add a NSFW tag....

@[email protected] This post was reported for fatphobia. I understand that you are using it as an example but we do want to avoid attacks on specific people or groups of people. Like you showed in your later posts, people swear at all sorts of things, like the weather, stubbing their toe, and missing the bus.

Do you mind changing the example in your original post? You can say that the example was changed at my request. Especially if you think changing the example will make the comments confusing.

Otherwise, I like your post. It's an interesting thing to think through and while it seems to be a little unpopular, my thoughts in the shower are often not fully thought through and would stand up poorly to the scrutiny of internet strangers.

Edit: I'm getting some down votes. I'm always open to hearing other people's thoughts if you would like to share. I make mistakes.

This post was reported for disinformation. To me this post reads like an opinion and hyperbole.

If we do assume that the post is making a factual claim; I'm not a lawyer and I don't know if voting has ever been used to claim that someone is complicit in a crime. Im open to being pointed to evidence.

I like ground being 0. That way you have a continuous number line from basement to the top:

-2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 5

Ah, thanks. Luckily the Linux ecosystem has is healthy with diversity. We can always use other distros.

Is this just a title and a picture? Am I missing the details somewhere?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

Up voted, because I don't agree. I have the 2023 power or whatever it's called with the big battery.

  • the double chop and twist are so fast
  • wired headphones are lovely
  • the battery life is the best I have had
  • when you want a nice picture you can borrow an iphone 😅

This was reported because it violates the rule that the entire shower thought must be in the title. It's always worth a quick scan of a community's rules before posting.

Also didn't they pull brains out the nose for mummification?

It's a key feature of Google maps that I don't have a great replacement for. I assume moderating the reviews would be a significant challenge for the project.

I have heard "beaver fever"... but typing it out for the internet just makes it sound like a euphemism.

Let's keep things civil everyone.

I never had success using my phone in the shower so I'm surprised to see a summary of a legal document in a shower thoughts post.

The French may not have the first democracy, may not have the best democracy, but they have had to fight harder than most for their democracy.

  • paraphrasing from an audio tour by Rick Steves, I think.

Edit: oops, i flipped words in the title

I first learned of Street-Complete here and I really like it.

It's satisfying to walk around, complete little tasks, and get prizes, scratching a similar itch to Pokemon Go.

Stuck waiting for someone? Add opening hours for a few local businesses.

Have a long walk ahead of you? See if you can add/check house addresses as fast as you can walk.

Want to walk off a few beers before heading home? Complete some tasks in the bar street.

Its a very constructive way to "be right" on the internet.

Is one a sub group of the other? Does either term include toddlers?

I'm having this discussion with someone and we both thought the opposite from eachother and we were quite sure our way of thinking was the common understanding.

I want to know if the car I'm renting comes with liability insurance. I just want to be sure that if I am at fault in an accident, that the other car will be covered. Lets try to ignore any personal car insurance policy and let's ignore collision insurance for now.

I am under the impression that in many countries they are required to give you liability insurance when you rent the car, but I don't have a good source. Many articles have mixed information.

For the US, this article says:

For a registered car rental company in the US, they must provide a minimum level of liability protection for cars they rent out.

But this other article says

In the U.S., every state requires a minimum amount of liability insurance on car insurance policies, so you may already have liability coverage through your personal auto insurance.

Which sounds like in the US your personal insurance is all you have.

In the spirit of Lemmy/federation giving more power to the users. I want to let the users of this community vote on our first candidate for a new mod. This is a little risky because there has not been much time for community to form, but I think its a chance to set a good precedence.

Voter information

The candidate for a new mod: lemmy.world/u/forkball

My arguments for adding them as a mod:

  • Assuming its the same person, reddit.com/u/forkball was an active reddit user since 2011. And from briefly scanning their history on reddit and Lemmy, they seem like a good level headed person. I think they would be a good mod, but the voice of the community is what matters.
  • I have no mod experience and was always a complete reddit lurker, so it would be good to have a very active community member as a mod.

My arguments for not adding them:

  • Y'all are chill and not causing a lot of work for me. So at this instant I can handle the work load. Not sure how long that will last though.

How to place a vote

I hope to avoid bots so voting will take some effort.

To place a vote you must comment on this post (I wont count nested comments). Your comment must begin with "YES:" or "NO:" followed by no less than 4 words justifying your vote.

Votes must be submitted before June 29 at 06:00 UTC.

If we have more YES votes than NO votes, u/forkball will become a mod.

Here are examples of valid voting comments: "YES: because forkball both showers and thinks!" "NO: because they didn't give me an up doot"

Fineprint

Lemmy and moderating is still new to me so if this ends up being a really dumb move on my part for some reason I cannot foresee, I reserve the right to bail on this idea and try another method for community input. Things would need to get really nuts for me to bail on this vote.

I don't expect a huge number of votes, but if im wrong, it may take some time to tally the votes.

Edits

  • It seems implied, but only one vote per username. Feel free to report duplicates. I will also try to publish the counted votes so people can validate my tally.

I created this community because it was my favorite on Reddit and I couldn't find one on Lemmy.

If the mods from reddit want to to moderate this community, I am happy to welcome them. They do a great job!
