There are articles in mainstream news outlets like NYT where dumbass journalists share "prompt hacks" to make ChatGPT give you insights about yourself. Journalists are blown away by literal cold reading. The real danger of these chatbots comes from asking about topics you yourself don't know much about. The response will look meaningful but you will never be able to tell if it has made a mistake since search engines are useless garbage these days.

It could a good topic for clinical study to find out if commercial LLMs are any worse than other media for exacerbating mental illnesses but it takes science time to catch up with the cabal of techbros releasing a new iteration of torment nexus every week.

Something related that I forgot to mention. ChatGPT builds a profile of you as you talk to it. I feel Deepseek does not do this and I assume stuff like Claude do this too. So it ends up knowing more about you than you know and in the case of these breakdown probably fuels the user's problematic behaviours.

What do you think I meant by preexisting? I can't parse your understanding of it from your response.

Yeah the default way of speaking is a toned down version of this.

Thoughts on this? I hate LLM but I think this article does a disservice by depicting the victims as perfectly normal before their mental health collapsed. They must have had some kind of preexisting problems that got exacerbated by their use of ChatGPT.

The point about these chatbots being sycophantic is extremely true though. I am not sure whether they are designed to be this way--whether it is because it sells more or if LLMs are too stupid to be argumentative. I have felt its effects personally when using Deepseek. I have noticed that often in its reasoning section it will say something like "the user is very astute" and it feels good to read that as someone who is socially isolated and is never complimented because of that.

I guess the lesson here is to use these chatbots as tools rather than friends because they are not capable of being the latter. I have tried a few times having discussions about politics with Deepseek but it is a terrible experience because of the aforementioned predisposition to being sycophantic. It always devolves into being a yes man.

The role of concrete and asphalt roads is really understated in making the ambient temperature hotter

Hi everyone - as a previous context I’m an AI Program Manager at J&J and have been using Cursor for personal projects since March.

Yesterday I was migrating some of my back-end configuration from Express.js to Next.js and Cursor bugged hard after the migration - it tried to delete some old files, didn’t work at the first time and it decided to end up deleting everything on my computer, including itself. I had to use EaseUS to try to recover the data, but didn’t work very well also. Lucky I always have everything on my Google Drive and Github, but it still scared the hell out of me.

Now I’m allergic to YOLO mode and won’t try it anytime soon again. Does anyone had any issue similar than this or am I the first one to have everything deleted by AI?

I have played and enjoyed Persona 3, 4 and 5. While I don't like the themes and stories as such, the games are fun. I am giving Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance right now and it feels bleak and unfun. I haven't reached Tokyo Tower yet but should get there soon. Does it get better or should I consider dropping it?

Is the new Legendary Edition a marked improvement over the original version? I want to play it on a weaker computer so I don't care for graphics and stuff. But I might consider it has significant quality of life improvements like better controller support etc.

Here are the PRs that are created entirely by AI:

Devs are talking to the AI trying to get it to fix some mistakes. It's so cringe.

Found this on Hackner News and the comments were ruminating the tradeoffs between modern public ameneties and authoritarianism. Is this what authoritarianism looks like?

Pakistan has barred Indian registered aircrafts from using its airspace but it shouldn't apply to entities like Lufthansa and Air France. So they are probably doing this out of precaution.

Hexbear is fascist. They’re pretending to be tankies, but every single post on there is right-wing and bigoted. It’s so damn obvious.

You all have been found out.
