notably i believe hajime no ippo had its ~1.4k chapter translation nuked with the official release only translating up to 170ish chapters. many licensed manga with incomplete translations are stuck in a similar boat. fucking hell we really can't have nice things or allow the proliferation of art.

i would be concerned about moving on such short notice (i took about a year and a half to deliberate on where to move post-college) but it also sounds like you have a lot going for you in this move (bringing friends with you, clear plan to relocate) that i didn't have.
i also bootstrapped my whole life when i felt like i was in a rut, and it was worth it. im away from family but still have some school friends near me and that helped a lot w actually making the leap (was homeless while looking for a lease :<)
yeah, this looks like an actual violation of trust around not stealing the work of other people in the community of hackers and not just "lol corpo got fucked haha". i would not care if they only used nintendo code, but not citing your sources when they're other open source projects is just rude.
they committed the software equivalent of plagiarism against an open source volunteer project, if the original post is to be believed.
as a "high" note this is going to motivate me to learn japanese even more now, cuz the official tls are too slow and stuff is way more expensive in english
