It's been a steady exodus since less than a year ago when they removed the bit from their TOS about never selling your personal data and promising to protect your privacy.

I believe the recent surge has been the forced integration of AI features which are on by default (arguments were made to at least make them opt-in and not opt-out). Such features compromise privacy and security.

They're actively doing everything they can to monitize the consumer and going against their supposed stance as the 'privacy focused' browser.

I've also heard that in Alan Rickman's final scene, the director called for the release of his harness early (as in hitting the quick release on the 1 of a 3-count). As a result, the look of fear on Alan Rickman's face is genuine. From Rickman's perspective, the stunt initiated unexpectedly.

If true, another bit of realism appears right there on Rickman's shocked face.

Ya, I don't believe you can completely avoid it. I'm with you though, reduce the use of it in the kitchen and with food wherever possible.

Not only do I avoid plastic where heat is invloved but I also try and avoid plastic in places where mechanical friction or cutting is involved. Using steel mixing bowls and wooden cutting boards are two big ones for me to avoid adding bits of plastic to my food.

Plenty of those exist. They were given out like mad when the analog to digital switch was happening. Little boxes that would convert digital TV signals to analog for viewing on old TV's.

Not really unprompted and likely in relation to Trump's recent statements that the US would restart nuclear weapon tests.
