Toddlers run the media, so it'll work on them anyway.

Take it and do the "don't poke there if it hurts then" routine on everyone.

RLM did a re:view on the Crank movies and since Remember Shuffle talked about Crank a bunch of weeks ago so it's easy to compare what people who actually think about art versus RLM normie-slop who just go "remember scene" and guess about reasons why things happened during the movie production. Not even doing any real research anymore, just coasting on info they heard from commentary tracks 12+ years ago.

I don't think it's bad to be like "people who are in a privileged position compared to the oppressed are more morally weighted to stop oppression". It's not a contradiction to say the oppressed would know better what to do about oppression, but on the question of acting upon it it's easier to actually do shit about when you're not already crushed by whatever social force.

There's a mod for the Wii U version that stops it at least. Not sure if there's one for the GC version.

Guy posts a manifesto and the news commenters as usual are unable to actually refute any of it.

So was Maduro a hindrance or a boon to communards and campesinos or not? 'cause 4 months ago any criticism of him was labelled ultra-leftist, idealist, every other word internet grandstanders use to silence critical understanding of the world. But now apparently they didn't need Maduro at all and makes it seem like campist hysterics for 4 months ago.

Instead I'm locked inside and playing WATCH_DOGS on Wii U and wearing a trench coat of tied-together blankets.

This talk was the first lecture as part of our new seminar series: Exploring the World of Japanese Studies

This new series aims to promote the diversity in Japan-related study in the UK, encouraging the general public as well as sixth formers and undergraduates who might be keen in pursuing their interest in Japan.

Ghibli in the Machine: AI Controversies and the Appropriation of Anime was hosted by Lancaster University on Friday 4th July 5pm BST. With Dr Zoe Crombie (Associate Lecturer in Film Studies, Lancaster University) and Prof. Rayna Denison (Professor of Film and Digital Arts and Head of Department for Film and Television at the University of Bristol).

After the talk, Dr Zoe Crombie (Lancaster University) gave 5 minutes of insight into the opportunities available in Japanese Studies or Japan-related study or research at Lancaster University.

44:35 - Dr Zoe Crombie - Studying Japan at Lancaster University

Talk Description:

Earlier this year, ChatGPT released a new Photo to Anime filter that turns user images into not just "anime" images but Hayao Miyazaki-inspired images. Controversially this filter quickly became one of ChatGPT's most popular image generators, while also being roundly condemned for the theft of Studio Ghibli's animation art. In this talk, we discuss how AI is currently reshaping the anime industry in Japan, and impacting upon one of Japanese animation's best loved studios. We consider how Japanese Studies can help us to unpack and understand this pivotal moment in Japanese animation history.
