I feel so proud of postmarketOS! I've been using them for 2nd life uses for phones, tablets, and chromebooks with very minimal problems. It's like having an obscure band you follow all of a sudden getting mentioned everywhere and I couldn't be happier for the project (like the 3rd time on Lemmy this week alone I've seen them mentioned).

If you have some scrap equipment throw it on and report your findings! There's a lot of testing that needs done and information needs to flow. I've done a "recipe" notebook with an old chromebook, a tablet for easy video viewing I can send videos to (instead of making my partner come to the comp), and like 3 other devices that I haven't finished with but pmOS will be a part of it.

Join their testing team if you have devices that aren't listed! Unlike most requirements, if it's not listed that just means it probably hasn't been tested...not that it doesn't work on your device. (they could probably also use some editors for their text instructions, it's quite back and forth with links trying to find proper instructions).

That whole article is infuriating... WHAT WAS THE SONG!!

but seriously, this article paints such a sad sad picture for them

The festival, which drew roughly 30 to 50 people at any given time on both Friday and Saturday (at a park...in the state capitol.... it was just people wandering around wondering wtf was going on lol)

"He sang a song with lyrics that go against our values," Fitzpatrick said... "This is yet another example of lies and deceptions from the Pride community. That’s what they are: liars and deceivers. They do it to victimize children. It’s pathetic and evil."

like, ffs. That was such an insane comment to make after someone sings a song you don't like, but then you find out the rest of his "events"

various events, including "Beers for Breeders" gatherings, Conspiracy Theory Trivia Night, where patrons can win an AR-15 rifle, Christian singles events, Bible study sessions, and gatherings for flat-earthers.

Holy shit TIL, I had no clue this dude died because he was basically an anti-vaxxer/alternative medicine guy.

Jobs also believed that his commitment to vegan diets meant his body was flushed of mucus -- and that it meant he was free from body odor, so he didn't need to wear deodorant or shower regularly. Unsurprisingly, the book quotes former coworkers saying that he was very, very wrong. ..... One of his go-to stress relievers during Apple's early days was soaking his bare feet in the company toilets. (link)

his doctors advised him to seek surgery as soon as possible. Instead, he delayed the procedure for nine months and attempted to treat himself with alternative medicine. This fateful decision may have quickened Steve Jobs’ death — when he still could’ve been saved. (link)

I think it's important to realize that we fantasize the person more than actually knowing them in the beginning. This can be bad if you're expectations are high and you find yourself fantasizing about a partner often. It's especially hard when just chatting online as we tend to form that person in our head before we actually meet them.

Just remember it takes time to really get to know someone. You can spend a lifetime learning someones inner workings and never really figure it out 100%. It can be a blessing though since it will allow you to fall in love with the person more than once.

edit: meant to add that it's also a similar struggle if you fantasize about "The One that Got Away". It's not reality, that person isn't who you believe them to be in your dreams (both literally and figuratively if you dream about them at night). Your perceived notions of what that relationship would be might hold you back from actually fully committing to the person you're interested in.

I just don't get why we're not training and endorsing out the next group with all this press. Sanders and Warren need to back and/or start a coalition of progressive up-and-coming leaders that they can help hone and introduce to the larger political landscape while they have the energy and influence. They need to stop being the only torch bearers and start bringing in underlings. Idc if they follow them around like a posse, might actually be better if they did. I would cuddle with Sanders all night if I could, I'm just tired of his name being the only one catching attention. The will try to bury any movement with him when his time comes, best to get ahead of it so momentum can keep going.

my special treat that my partner hates for me to make but gobbles up bowls of: White Rice, Ground Beef, and Cream of Mushroom soup (campbells can). White rice like you like it, Ground the beef and salt generously after draining grease (helps the beef pop out more in the taste), then I usually do half of the milk called for with the soup.

Bed of RIce in a bowl, ground beef on top, then pour the cream of mushroom soup on it. Such a warm and crazy good taste but I get looks whenever I bring it up so I don't make it that often unless it's just me for a few days.

I gotta say, this article makes me feel sane again.

Been slowly running into more results from DDG that seem to have some "personal parameter" or difference in search results. I had a search saved from some months ago, went to check it for some references and got new hits involving local organizations that had nothing to do with the search. Opening up a private browser I see that the searches aren't 100% matching up either.

I see this as only getting worse, I want to be able to enter a search and it searches for my query. Not based on my personality or whatever info is being collected. Does anyone know a search engine that's reliable and focuses on giving the same results and doesn't try this "personalized" crap?

Really decently made by Power543 fan films. I'm not sure how I feel about ret-conning footage putting the character in but I suppose with such a limited cast like Universe you would have to insert someone. There's talk of a Star Trek/Stargate crossover (another fan made film in the link) that they're developing, hopefully it comes to existence.

I wanted to share and highlight this video for others to see. This is such a thorough and amazing resource for the dev team at Frost Giant (the makers of Stormgate) that I hope they have seen. The breakdown and walk-through of the different elements of the game was such an amazing thing to watch.

I found myself sitting there watching for hours, this is exactly what game companies need in terms of experienced game tester leads that can articulate and explain everything going on in the game from the perspective of an average player. I think if every game company had someone of this caliber, to sit down with them and go over the basic mechanics of the games, we would all be a lot better off. I felt like I was sitting in on a company meeting while an outside contractor was going over his notes with the developers and trying to understand their vision while giving his unique and experienced position.

I'm definitely more excited about the game than I was previously after watching this video (as confusing as that might seem). It shows a clear path of how to fix and enhance the gameplay which has a chance to come into fruition with the game still in the testing phase.

This was another DIY project I ran across that looks a little less intimidating than Kristian Tysse's Stargate Project.

The link has full build instructions, how to order parts, and 3d models for completion. If you're looking at getting into diy electronics and love stargate this could be a cool project for yourself or a loved one! (I think I'm getting ready to gear up for something like this)

Youtube clip of the project.

I ran into an old movie I had on VHS as a kid titled "MegaForce" (1982) (RT link). I hadn't seen the movie in decades and was worried looking at a rotten tomato score of 6% that if I watched it, I would be completely disappointed in the movie as an adult. Surprisingly, I didn't realize as a kid that it was actually more of a spoof comedy action movie like a knock-off "Hot Shots" or "Naked Gun" and just completely enjoyed watching it again because it felt like a whole new experience (definitely better than the new G.I. Joe's lol).

So what's your movie from your past that you'll always enjoy no matter how cheesy or horrible it may seem?

I'm not sure how I first ran into it but it seems there are a lot of paintball places that embrace the Stargate franchise! There is a permanent zone for our UK family,

Paintball UK - Stargate Zone

Another mention that has unfortunately passed, The Swamp Fun Park had a stargate themed event "STARGATE: THE NID PROBLEM CONTINUES". Found a vid from someone participating, really wish they recorded the scenario briefing and the lore behind what they were doing though.

If you're into both of these aspects, definitely look around because I've found a lot of different ones that have expired but seems to be a reoccurring theme people like to use.

I've been seeing more often (and others have posted the same) that some of the elements of "Reddit etiquette" seem to be taking over here. Luckily I can still find discussion comments but it seems the jokes and general "downvote because I disagree" are slowly taking over.

So the question becomes is it the size or the functionality of the site? The people or popularity? What's your thoughts?

edit: should I change it to Lemmy-hivemind? Exhibit A: the amount of downvotes without a single explanation (guessing it's anything to do with Reddit being talked about).

If you don't have the original movie on hand to sync play, you can find it streaming for free on the following platforms:

Pluto TV - Stargate

Roku Channel - Stargate

Tubi TV - Stargate

I'm unsure if all of the links will work for our international friends, if you have a similar link then please share in the comments below.

For those more comfortable with sea faring, I use the following link from our lemmy neighbors over at [email protected]

Instruction landing page for those learning the seas

Direct link to sites (I like fmovies personally but the 321movies/123movies has more clone sites that usually get taken down less)

Luckily my energy company found a way around all of this to always charge more! We have "Basic Customer Charge", "Summary of Rider Adjustments", "Renewable Energy Rider", and then Sales Tax on all of it. My base charge is over 100$ before they start calculating your actually energy usage. Yay electrical monopolies!

Here is the original posting from New Zealand Herald which has video of the incident (1 of 3 near identical pages, that website is a mess). I searched out the real one because that linked article is just horrible and unnecessary (idk why he felt cool putting "The only things I’m planning to sneak in are sleeping tablets." at the end).

For anyone wanting to get riled up, NZ Herald also has this wonderful little opinion piece from Ryan Bridge (a local broadcaster).

Ryan Bridge is wondering where people’s shame went when it comes to breaking the rules. This is not the most important story that you will hear today, but it grinds my gears. It’s a small, seemingly insignificant event, but I think it speaks to two things that I absolutely hate about the world that we live in right now.

The opinion article is just a shit show from what sounds like a pretty horrible and privileged person.

If it makes you feel any better, I've ran into the same problem with construction. I used to enjoy looking up new techniques and materials in a whole range of contractor work, now though it's all DIY and companies selling unregulated products with no real guarantees. The amount of people who self-post themselves fragrantly breaking the law with illegal systems or dangerous builds not up to any type of standard code is mind blowing. Without fail there's thousands of upvotes and hundreds of replies thanking the person for the horrible tips. I can't imagine the number of people who have died because of it, I don't think there will ever be any type of regulation or support for factual and safe information.

Holy fuck why is that so beautiful. You've unlocked something in me I didn't know was there and must pursue now.

? What's the difference between setting up a free forum (they're everywhere) versus setting up Discord channels? It's the exact same process.
