You probably already know this one, but Art & The Working Class is avaiable on Iskrabooks in English and there's a Free PDF version accessible to anyone.
Somewhat of a controversial figure, but maybe give it a read if there's nothing else.
This is just casual chitchat for them, you will likely never see the texts that are considered "sensitive information".
Set boundaries. Don't lash out on them and remain composed. Debunk their claims using verifiable facts. Interrogate them when you see an opening to strike, don't let them deviate away from your question.
Western journalist are a good example to study in how they compose their interviews. They are loud and aggressive, they ask questions for the sake of making a point, they don't care for your answer, they just want to use you as a springboard to confirm their own suspicions, they want to humiliate you and boost their own Pride.
What you use to combat that is confidence, study instead of reacting, prepare yourself. Use silence as a display of humility and grace, make every word you say strike like a powerful blow of a hammer.
Most importantly remember to never fight alone, make allies, fight for the sake of something you love, don't fight for the sake of fighting.
Edit: I make spelling mistake :(
The grim reality is that most politically active Westerners you see are just following social media trends. If Frontex was making headlines you'd see protests for it also.
Like the average politically minded person (Liberal, but most of Europeans who are politically active are libs) is operating at a level that if they see something on the News they think it's important, because it's on the News.
Yeah. I think the best we can do is not to become luddites and declare a war on social media, that's like the traditional conservative talking point. That historical advancement can be stopped by sheer force of will and ideology.
We should acknowledge that Netizenship is inherently separate from your being and as Marxism, by extension Dialectical-Materialism becomes more popular and more practiced that we will be able to develop the most healthy version of the internet. In the meantime we should be using it as a force for good, however we can, but to make sure we don't let it hamper us either, inevitably mistakes will be made, but nothing is perfect.
There are lots of positive things about the internet and it can be useful tool for learning, positively mentally stimulating etc. Even if this does turn into just floating text on screen, in some ways it's liberating, what ruins it is Capitalism.
Mental health fields, like any other fields really, suffered greatly due to de-communization. And naturally a lot of it did get liberalized, pill pushers are a real thing, over-prescription is a real issue, improper diagnosis, weaponized use of psychiatric wards, the way treatment approaches is shaped will of course be shaped by a Capitalist Society, which at best won't kill their patients: because they know it's better to keep the customer alive.
Which is what Patients are under capitalism, they're Customers, if there's no socialized medicine. One of the biggest blunders that's been ignored by psychoanalysts is well the fact that our society is structured to be unhealthy and how can an unhealthy society produce a healthy mind?
As a result there's a ton of misconceptions related to the field of mental issues, some valid, some are reactionary.
I've seen plenty of people claim that my ADHD can be cured by the ways of Stoicism and Disciplinary action and that's bullshit, it's a neurological condition. Ironically I'm more disciplined than most people who tell me I need to be Disciplined, because I've spent 20+ years bumbling around managing my disorder by sheer force of will.
Ironically, now that people who don't have ADHD see how well I'm doing they think they can replicate my improvements, in productivity or life in general, by consuming the same substances. That's not going to work. Those meds tend to have the opposite effect on those who don't have the disorder. You're essentially giving yourself like a version of ADHD by doing that, which is why it's used as recreational, induced hyperactivity, impulsivity, restlessness.
But you know what? Psychiatry might be able to develop a more permanent cure to my conditions, capitalism won't allow it to happen
Capitalism also won't allow me to go further into detail, because I got to make bread somehow and so if i really did the research I'd want to put that in a book and sell it, because i want to eat. And it's not like I'd give a shit if people bought the book or not. I'd make it freely avaiable, but there's only so much unpaid labor I'm willing to do.
Hans our people are displeased, what should we do?
More circuses.
What about the bread?
No, more circuses. Make a bigger circus.
I'm going to do something I try to avoid doing because it makes me uncomfortable and I don't like to be confident.
In order to combat transphobia we must uplift transgender people and most importantly their work. We transgender people are just as multi-dimensional and capable as any other human being. People have been fed a fake caricature version of what a transgender person is and we must prove them wrong, because they are wrong.
I have 0 sympathy for the person who got banned, but one must acknowledge simply removing them is not enough. I'm not saying Lemmy should become this bastion of change and that we should just let these people in here willy inly, absolutely not, we don't have nearly robust enough tools to moderate such heated environment and that's unrealistic. So naturally temp/perma bans are necessary.
Most people don't even know what a trans person is, it's all an idea fed to them by the most powerful institutions on the planet. People are so disconnected from reality, they think social media = real life, someone being on tv = now that must be real legit etc. And it's so easy for them to do this so successfully because there's so few of us out there. And the few pro-LGBT organizations out there that exist forces me to behave like a caricature or I'm declared excommunicado. I am a human being
This applies to just about any left wing organizing effort, at least in Eastern Europe.
All of them will have been doing some real praxis. Either it's theory, organizing protests, running food kitchens, other sort of mutual-aid etc.
Each of them wants to define what Marxism really is, assuming they even get that far to read marx and maybe whole 5 people here. Each year they throw more books at me and I have entertained them and respectably read their books.
Have they read my recommendations? No. They'd rather go debate with a liberal. Our governments have been stealing money from pension funds, medical funds, they've been stealing and plundering while we do nothing about it.
And I have never seen a leftist group here try to do anything to secure those funds instead. They deal with the consequences of consequences, but never take it a step further. Just like how they will blame USSR for collaborating with Nazi's but ignore the fact that Western allies pushed them into that position.
Thus I have come to my conclusion, after years of both practical experience (real world interactions) and theory, they have conditioned us into what's known and Splitting in psychology, we have Extremes, but we don't have that much Radicals.
The difference between a Radical and Extremist mindset is that they are both willing to make huge amounts of sacrifices, but one of them is grounded in reality while the other is metaphysical. A radical can shake hands with their enemy and then come out of there uncompromised. An extremist will kill all hostages to save a few.
I don't really know where to put this, it's tangential to the Epstein case. So I'm spoilering it, but feel free to remove it.
I just thought someone might want some ammo if they ever run int one of those people from the Baltics.

Honestly the segregation between different kind of communities is so bad I get where the poster is coming from. If she’s are already reaching out to other communities for help and nobody is biting, what else can she do. I made a pointless comment earlier last night, but now that I slept over it I feel kind of bad, because like what can she do?
I’m genuinely asking in good faith. I still don’t think it’s useful to make it cis vs trans vs disabled. It should be comrade vs capitalist. Harsh reality however is that many comrades seem to be hellbelt on being divided and this is driving reactionary sentiment, that we have to solve somehow.
If this was happening irl what we should be doing is helping marcie and that’d change her views, but what can we do here? There’s only so much. It’s really frustrating. I think all of us want unity, but when we try to achieve it we keep running into walls. If someone is in a hostile environment that rejects them is it even possible to be a communist? Like materially. idk
