I'm going to do something I try to avoid doing because it makes me uncomfortable and I don't like to be confident.

In order to combat transphobia we must uplift transgender people and most importantly their work. We transgender people are just as multi-dimensional and capable as any other human being. People have been fed a fake caricature version of what a transgender person is and we must prove them wrong, because they are wrong.

I have 0 sympathy for the person who got banned, but one must acknowledge simply removing them is not enough. I'm not saying Lemmy should become this bastion of change and that we should just let these people in here willy inly, absolutely not, we don't have nearly robust enough tools to moderate such heated environment and that's unrealistic. So naturally temp/perma bans are necessary.

Most people don't even know what a trans person is, it's all an idea fed to them by the most powerful institutions on the planet. People are so disconnected from reality, they think social media = real life, someone being on tv = now that must be real legit etc. And it's so easy for them to do this so successfully because there's so few of us out there.
