This save has been started nearly 10 years ago. I love palm os and even used this very palm treo 650 to replace a broken galaxy note 2.

I continued this save like a week ago (a gnat a 20k credits) and proceeded to do every mission that I know of.

Traded a bunch, even used the termite to haul narcotics and flee police.
Finally bought a wasp.
Luckied out on the space warp event (a black hole saved my bacon) and got the singularity drive.
Used it to Speedrun the Gemulon alien invasion. Installed the compactor on my wasp.
Killed the dragonfly and installed its shield on my wasp.
Finally found effin professor Berger after encountering about 200 mantis.
Got the computer from the diplomat.
Visited every system.
Did the medicine run to Japori.
Killed the space monster of Acamar in two runs.
Got to buy the Utopia moon.

Killed about 50 pirates with the fully kitted wasp (and targeting computer) got competent rating, couldn't be arsed to farm pirates at the risk of losing the best Wasp you could get, so I found the Utopia moon event, bought it and streamlined there. I just never went criminal, and avoided the merchant prince event. Also never encountered the scarab quest, but I wonder if the normal difficulty is to blame.

No deaths, no cheats, and sub 300 days (which surprised me)

Memorable moment : 45 narcotics run at +1800cr each, to a militarist system. Was a ride.

Nobody cares about a 20 years old game on a 15 years old dead platform, but here we are.

IDK what this is but you made it sound cool af

It sounds cooler than it actually is cuz it's mostly a text game (with a graphical interface) and very little graphics. You can play a port of it here. https://www.f-droid.org/packages/com.brucelet.spacetrader/

But text games are pretty cool tho

Right! My imagination makes the best images.

I don't know if this game is related but if you haven't check out space traders RPG on Android. It's made by the trese brothers and it's amazing I've been playing it for years. They even have a sequel to it now which is much harder but the first one's better I think.

Ah, it seems the elite version is not compatible for my modern phone. Looked nice indeed !

That's too bad it's a really fun game and sounds almost exactly like what you described. Surprised it doesn't work on your phone it's very minimal it's mostly text based. Honestly any of their games are fantastic. The Trese Bros. Just look them up on Google Play store almost every one of their games is some sort of 4X or strategy. You generally have to pay for the full version of the game but there's no ads even in the trial versions. They really set the bar in my opinion for mobile video games.

Same. Old school nerd-ery ftw

I found some screenshots on ~~a very old fanpage.~~ Apparently it is the actual developers homepage. Credit goes to Lem Jukes for noticing.

That legit looks fun.

I remember playing a game of similar concept on pc back in the day that was ships and ports and pirates

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

It's really nice. There's an open source port available for android, and I believe there are various ports for pc as well.

Oh yeah nice

May need to sideload based on the device though

That’s not a fan page, that’s the OG dev’s personal site. The game was made by a guy named Pieter Spronck, he’s a professor of CS at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

Thanks for the info. I have updated my comment accordingly.

I played that game on my m100, M125, Zire71 and on my final Palm device: the LiveDrive. That's an awesome achievement and I congratulate you on your endurance. I think the only time I bought a wasp was by cheating (editing the save game, I think?). Man, all those names in your post really bring back old memories I thought forgotten - from an era of the internet long, long gone. Thank you. Wasn't there a tribbles event in that game, too?

If I ever get to making my own space game I'll surely put in some references to Space Trader. The only gaming achievment I had back then was a +800 winning streak in a freecell game but that got lost when my device died.

Yes sir ! The tribbles event is the merchant prince event. Nothing to gain here but pain.

The wasp is not super super hard to get, just trade to hell and back using the beetle and then the termite. The bumblebee is also a nice all-rounder ship.

What language is this post in?

That makes sense. My grandfather tried to teach me Badass when I was younger but he only knew the Son of a Bitch dialect.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Somewhere between English and Sumerian

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago

Damn now that is dedication.

I loved my Tungsten T2 and the overall Palm OS. Tries my luck with an auction bought Tapwave Zodiac 2 some years ago but I was unable to use it's Sync capabilities and the SD card didn't read at all. The device felt nice though, just as I imagined it would be when I was still in college and wished to have it back then.

My dad used to daily drive a Centro (the last ever palm os device, a phone) until like 5 years ago. He still misses the productivity suite and the overall responsiveness of the system.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Productivity Suite as in Documents2Go or just the usual PIM suite by Palm? Because both of them were awesome.

Also adding Blazer to the mix and you had a very smarty non smartphone :D

[-] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

Both. My father used datebook6 by pimlico. He loved it and never was able to replace it.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

I think I played it way back on my palm zire, but not that much. But it was quite nice.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

I played this so much back then, started off on an m100 and eventually got a Zire71 for Christmas. I still have my dads old Tungsten T|X on the shelve, the last/newest palm©️ device i held in my hand. Man that TX had issues with the built in wifi. It has a 50:50 (or worse) chance to crash and reboot the device any time you turn the wifi on (or off or received or send data), such a shame and apparently there was a "firmware fix" but all it did was reduce the chance of it crashing, never eliminated it. Still though, palm devices are awesome and i have a lot of good memories playing some space trader at night in bed, in glorious m100 monochrome.

Oh man, I loved that game so much. I played it all the time on my old Treo 650. Still the best phone I've ever had

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

This is fuckin rad. I miss the hell out of my Treo. I played this game so damn much in my downtime.
