“As I near 60 years old, the expiration date has come and gone on any of my youthful indiscretions,” Taylor told the Nashville Scene when asked about the unsolicited nudes allegation. “Whatever story you think you’ve got, my wife is well aware of, and we’ve worked through it a long time ago.”

“My God and my wife have forgiven me, and I would consider everyone else doing the same,” Taylor added.

Tennessee is such a bass ackward state. It's basically a bunch of old rich guys who have been privileged for so long that the thought of someone calling their bullshit is reprehensible.

This fuck is running in a fresh redistrict against an African American and will absolutely walk it in.

"My God and my wife have forgiven me, and I would consider everyone else doing the same."

sigh This is a problem with religion, once you're convinced God has forgiven you have something, you cease all guilt because it's "handled" in a cosmic sense

This but kinda unironically. I'd wager that more than half of all republicans (and a good chunk of the democrats) don't have the mental capacity anymore to truly be held accountable for their actions. Be it due to self inflicted damage with drugs and alcohol, dementia or residual lead poisoning. It really doesn't matter.

That, however, also makes them ineligible for the positions they hold and they need to be removed posthaste.

Shout out to Justin Pearson, the guy this chode is running against.

Justin Pearson is one of the Tennessee Three, three Dem state representatives that got expelled from the exceptionally corrupt Tennessee state House of Representatives for supporting gun legislation the day after the Nashville school shooting, when the speaker refused to let ANYONE talk about the shooting or gun control. (Also note that two of the three expelled are black.)

They were only out for a few days before their communities fought a huge battle to reinstate them, but the Tennessee House would have rather deprived those communities of their lawful representation than hear about legislating gun control.

While this asshole has been sitting home confused about his age and sending women dick pics, Pearson has been visiting communities in his now incredibly gerrymandered new district, finding out what their needs are and making himself acquainted with the needs of the people, holding frequent town halls while the Republicans hide from their constituents.

Pearson is a guy who has already proven that he will stand up for what he believes in, even when the personal cost is high. If I were in TN-9, I would vote for Pearson in a heartbeat.

Is this a political advertisement? Sorta surreal to read.

No, it's not, why would you think so or say that? This reads to me like a voter in a democracy making a case for a candidate they support. Real political ads are much more surreal than this

Because its written like a political ad? Its emotionally driven, pitches a good guy vs a bad guy, and it has a sales-style closing. I guess I'm realizing my issue is it sounds like a car salesman pitching a car. I wouldnt find that type of rhetoric effective in person but maybe its more appropriate on here.

I'm not criticizing the candidates, I dont know either of them.

lol! That's just a fancy way of saying "I'm ok with what I did and I see nothing wrong"

  • It's the "Christian" forgiveness bullshit. They think that whatever they do to people doesn't matter, because they answer to a higher power. So of course, forgiveness is expected, because the "hard" part was "asking" for forgiveness.

It's all bullshit these narcissistic assholes in religion use to control people.

Right? 2 people--one that doesn't even exist--so really 1 person said they're ok with it... But why? How exactly did that conversation go? If he really wants us to consider moving on then maybe he should share that conversation and examine his actions before the public to identify exactly where he made missteps and what sort of reparations he's made. I mean, he has done more than simply ask his wife and an imaginary being for forgiveness, right?

Or is the solution here really for everyone else to get over it?

There's a species of Christian wife that is indistinguishable from a slave.

Not really. In general the founder of Christianity, Paul, disapproved of fucking slaves.*

I know this is different from US slaveholder practices, but you gotta point out where these self described Christians deviate.

*edit: i double checked and found myself wrong. Paul apparently never said anything regarding fucking slaves, and under Roman law and practice this was just commonplace.

I can see how that went too.. they argued, she cried, he promised it was just a "stupid phase" and "didn't really mean anything" and she didn't leave his ass because everything is in his name and she's scared to try, so that MUST mean she forgave him and everything is A ok.

One individual who was provided anonymity told the Scene that they received unwelcome nudes from the congressman as recently as 2021—when Taylor was 53.

No apology to the person he sexually harassed, then? Everyone relevant has forgiven him?

Listen everyone, he said God and his wife forgave him, so it's fine. That is, assuming he was sending unsolicited nudes to God and his wife...

Surely he wouldn't have sent them to other people...

I don't know why anyone does this, especially when you're a politician.

Also, isn't this a literal crime?

Especially since he says that because God has forgiven him, everyone else should "consider doing the same", he believes an invisible intangible being no one has seen or heard from is the highest authority and everyone else needs to get with the program.....

It reminds me of abusive Christian men who over-police their wives and say "Oh my wife is subserviant to me, but I'm not in charge, after all, I'm held accountable by Jesus!"

I got in trouble at church once as a kid because I asked why the person on stage talking to God is okay and everyone around us is cheering it on, but that year I had seen several people involuntarily committed who also claimed to talk to God and why is everyone so sure one is talking to God and the others aren't.

    Apparently they don't like questions.

    When I was fifty-three
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for unsuspecting women
    To receive an unsolicited pic
    Of my wrinkled dick
After making the rounds at bars
    When I was fifty-three
