My prediction will be a predictably shallow main quest that relies on the player making few to no choices to progress.

The side quests will largely be fetch quests or randomly generated nonsense that is not fun or interesting.

The world will somehow be more generic than Skyrim while making the most lackluster refrences to past lore and canon. I am also predicting extremely small cities, maybe with the exception of one or two. And that is if they don't go the starfield route of world generation.

Combat may be better than skyrim tho (Fallout 4 was a big improvement over 3)

I just can't see a Bethesda that ever makes anything as good as Morrowind again.

If you are looking forward to ES6 just buy morrowind and download Tamriel Rebuilt. It's the best Elder Scrolls game ever made at this point and keeps getting updates

I've been holding out for Skywind to come out at this point because I end up spending a week or two setting up Morrowind mod lists

[-] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 6 points 19 hours ago

Oh thank god, looks like Bethesda is just shipping hentai-free games so I don't have to download 3000 mods from nexus to make it so

Don't get hyped by PR stunts before release. It's Bethesda/Microsoft. It's very likely going to suck. Don't preorder. Wait for TONs of different reviews.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 5 points 17 hours ago

Whether it's Microsoft/Bethsoft, EA, or Ubisoft, their games will always suck and don't get suckered into buying them. I'm almost certain AAA gaming is just a scam at this point.

[-] BanMeFromPosting@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Is it still the same lead writer that was responsible for Fallout 4 and starfield or has he finally been fired?

Edit: it is. How has that man not been fired?

This game is gonna be terrible. It's made by Bethesda ffs

[-] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago

If they ditched Todd and Emil completely and brought over the writers from ESO they'd have a chance, provided they poached some competent quest designers from another studio. Todd's apparently been sidelined post-Starfield but AFAIK Emil is still their lead writer and he's been as responsible as Todd for the sorry state of Bethesda's writing and worldbuilding.

[-] batsforpeace@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

also MS fired a large chunk of the ESO dev team while I think they left Bethesda mostly untouched

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 4 points 17 hours ago

It's like they want to make bad games

If not more so. Emil writes marvel brained slop like none other.

[-] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 24 points 1 day ago

And he's gotten worse at it over the years. Like he ostensibly wrote the Tenpenny Tower storyline/quest for FO3, and then rehashed it in Starfield except worse because the literal only options there were siding with a CEO who wanted you to either commit genocide, convince an entire people to become his slaves, or give his mass murdering oligarch buddy a huge commission to let the generation ship leave without murdering or enslaving them. Whereas with Tenpenny Tower you could just kill Tenpenny on the spot, all the corporate freaks on that planet are invincible and the quest literally cannot even be failed, it can only resolve by you doing what they want.

Like FO3 was bad and railroady in bad ways (with its forced loss in a cutscene and nonsensical original ending), but Starfield is even worse in all of those ways and I can't help but see it as Emil getting increasing creative control and driving away everyone with actual talent.

[-] shath@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It was actually shocking how bad the writing in starfield is.

[-] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

And on absolutely every level too. The worldbuilding is this weird unseasoned-mashed-potato facsimile of two Heinlein novels (the really fascist one and the cowboy incest one), the narrative is just aimless meaningless slop that goes nowhere and says and does nothing, the quest design is half-assed brainwormed dogshit to the point that it's absolute peak is when it just does the thing Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2 did with a split time place and it does it meaningfully worse than either of those did it, and the character writing is just dreary and abysmal nonsense.

Like mechanically the game was fine, but they just failed completely and utterly at every stage of writing its world and content.

Put some respect on the name of Nate the Rake kkkanada

[-] Kefla@hexbear.net 46 points 1 day ago

Brought to you by the guys responsible for Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Starfield.

Yeah, Bethesda's dead. There are like 3 people left from when they actually made good games and those are the ones least responsible for those games being good

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago

Also all the recent interviews with former devs have revealed that they are by and large fucking delusional

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago

Writers as well. One of the longtime writers for the TES series (Daggerfall till Oblivion) was laid off and was given what was essentially a cameo for Skyrim (I believe he was credited for a couple of the in game books to do with past events in the lore). He appears to be completely uninvolved in 6.

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 5 points 17 hours ago

Michael Kirkbride got fired late in Morrowind's development for drinking on the job. He was commissioned to write some stuff in Oblivion and again in Skyrim, in addition to reusing his older works.

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 1 points 12 hours ago

I fused him and Peterson together in my mind

[-] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago
[-] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Kirkbride wasn't on Daggerfall so either he's misremembering or he means Ted Peterson who wrote for all of them besides Skyrim

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 5 points 22 hours ago

I may have fused both of them together, it's been a while.

Hyping the scale? Should I assume it's about half the size of Skyrim then?

[-] GoebbelsDeezNuts@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

I have a genuine question, why do people give a shit about how large a Bethesda game is? I could attempt to make the worlds largest pizza and cover it in ketchup and candle wax but that wouldn't make it good.

To me it seems odd being a size queen when your partner is Graham Linehan.

[-] Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml 7 points 23 hours ago

Because judging them on the quality of their work would be even less kind.

[-] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

it's going to be either the size of Solstheim from Skyrim and there's a dude every 2 yards yelling at you to do their quest (randomly generated ofc) or it's going to be half the size of Skyrim and there's a hub every 50 yards that dispenses quests (randomly generated ofc)

[-] Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml 25 points 1 day ago

Half the size of Skyrim with quests that get you to go from on side of the map to the other, repeatedly, to give you a proper view of the absolute emptiness between the five houses clusters they call cities. All designed and modeled by AI.

[-] GenderIsOpSec@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

todd You're hired!

[-] bobs_guns@lemmygrad.ml 38 points 1 day ago

I have my doubts Bethesda could write a good story if it came fully formed outta their doo doo ass. What, are they gonna make me find my father again?

[-] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 37 points 1 day ago

I have my doubts Bethesda could even write a mediocre story like in Skyrim or fallout 3\4 now lol

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

If they stop letting that talentless hack Emil Pagliarulo write it they have a chance

[-] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Hes just a symptom of the lack of quality in Bethesda, its not like he single handed wrote all of fallout 4 and starfield

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 3 points 17 hours ago

He wrote the main quest lines for both so actually he kinda did

I wonder if Bethesda games are going to suffer from the same thing as Final Fantasy, where all the fans are in their 30s and 40s because it takes so fucking long for the next game to come out now that young people aren't becoming fans. Add on the issue that each game they release is worse than the last and it doesn't bode well for long-term prospects.

Then again people love their open world slop, so perhaps it'll work.

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago

Bethesda games or more accurately TES and Fallout aren't on the level of Rockstar games, COD or sports games but since Oblivion/Fallout 3 they've been up there on the list of "4 games a non-gamer normie dad gets for his PlayStation/Xbox" where Final Fantasy has never been on that level of mass appeal in the West. It's just too niche, too anime and too Japanese which is why they tried making the newest one all dark and gritty
