The person in the photos is an Israeli woman named Tohar Ben Shitrit. She has a channel on instagram, tiktok, and youtube. She has tons of videos showcasing fake foods.

Some comments in this thread ask why someone would have a slice of ketchup rather than a slice of cheese. Cheeseburgers are not kosher because Torah says "do not cook a kid in its mother's milk", which is interpreted as "do not combine meat and cheese".

The fake product seems like some kind of Israeli joke, like a play on "slice of cheese".

Actually, I wonder if throwing a slice of it into my 番茄炒鸡蛋 would improve it. It should contain some form of thickener, which means I won't have to make a corn-starch slurry, and the taste shouldn't really be too intrusive in a egg and tomato stir fry.

I don't have a back yard and you can pry my lawn chair from my cold dead asscheeks.

[-] AvocadoVapelung@hexbear.net 64 points 12 hours ago

oh yeah, you know those dried up bits around the cap? how about an entire slice of that? visible-disgust

[-] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 29 points 11 hours ago

that sounds terrifyingly accurate and i'm not sure if i should shiver or throw up now

[-] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 8 hours ago

who the fuck buys that smh

[-] Speaker@hexbear.net 43 points 11 hours ago

Reported for posting to /c/food with what is clearly not food.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 23 points 10 hours ago

I hate tomatoes but the idea of a slice of ketchup also sounds disgusting

[-] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 10 points 8 hours ago

Same. I can't do raw fresh tomatoes but I am fine with salsa,, marinara, etc.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 16 points 10 hours ago

I remember as a toddler adults pulling a "you like ketchup, so why dont you like tomatoes?" On kids who didnt like tomatoes. Like.. okay, drink some vinegar then, throw some sodium bicarbonate on your pasta.

[-] Itsamelemmy@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

Sugar. You like it because it's loaded with sugar. I don't like tomatoes, fine with ketchup and salsa. But not pico, because the tomatoes in pico are still too tomato.

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 4 points 4 hours ago

Ive always liked tomatoes, im speaking for the other, more frail children

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 23 points 11 hours ago

I used to hate tomatoes

Then I learned that they could be good with a little salt and pepper

Now i've made panzanella salad and it's like, where have you been all my life?

[-] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 4 points 5 hours ago

There was a brief period in my youth where my mother would just buy a shitload of cherry tomatoes. No idea why. School lunch? Yeah there's a bunch of cherry tomatoes. Feeling peckish? Cherry tomatoes. Breakfast? For some reason, cherry tomatoes.

Lasted 2 months then she never bought them again.

[-] gila@hexbear.net 7 points 7 hours ago

Caprese salad (if you aren't vegan)

[-] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 8 hours ago

my theory is that kids that dont like veggies is because their parents didnt season their vegetables.

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 4 points 6 hours ago

Pretty true in my case, veggies were either the frozen mixed veggie blend (disgusting, especially the carrots), boiled, or just prepared in a way that made them unappetizing. No shade to my parents, it's tough to cook for a family, but when we all learned to prepare veggies properly I found out I actually like broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, etc

I do still hate cooked carrots & I stand by that, I've tried plenty of methods & I haven't found one I like. But I'm fine with that

[-] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Booboo my mom insisted on only ever steaming veggies. No wonder kids hate broccoli. Fucking pan sear that shit and season it!

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 4 points 7 hours ago

That or they just boil them

The idea that putting anything on a vegetable or cooking it in a fashion that changes its appearance somehow robs the food of its healthy qualities has done irreparable harm to healthy eating habits

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 12 points 10 hours ago

I recently made this discovery myself. Turns out, if you add flavor to them, they're not bad.

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 10 points 10 hours ago

Also, heirloom tomatoes have a wonderful flavor!

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 10 hours ago

I've always been okay on tomatoes. Found out I fucking love a tomato if it's a good tomato. Home garden is best but it is one of the veggies that is worth paying for the better version. A lot of stuff it doesnt make a difference if you get the expensive organic version, onions is onions for example. Tomatoes are a strong exception. Low quality tomatoes are for salsa and lesser sandwiches. Good tomatoes are for eating raw and really good sandwiches where you buy nice bread

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 14 points 10 hours ago

Yep

A nice tomato sandwich on a hot day is :chefs-kiss:

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 12 points 10 hours ago

Blast a bit of flaky salt, some herbs de province and white pepper on a fine heirloom tomato. Or throw that fucker on an everything bagel with either just some garlic oil or vegan cream cheese and fresh greens....madone

[-] BGDelirium@hexbear.net 14 points 10 hours ago

I still hate tomatoes and you'll never convince me otherwise

avgn

They have some ketchup slices for you

[-] robotElder2@hexbear.net 5 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Something in the aroma just reads like rot to me and no amount of cooking helps. A healthy tomato plant still in the ground smells like yard waste and so does your grandma's marinara that she simmers for eight hours. But then I don't like ketchup either. Some vinegar is fine but even a little ketchup drowns out everything else.

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 4 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

tomato plants smell fucking weird for sure but it comes from the vine, not the fruit. something's gone very wrong if that smell is getting into your pasta sauce

[-] robotElder2@hexbear.net 4 points 6 hours ago

Then there's been something very wrong with every tomato I've ever encountered.

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 3 hours ago

Sorry, I don't mean for this to sound like a clapback or an insult or something, but could it be something to do with your nose? Are there any other common foods that smell really bad to you but fine to everyone else?

[-] fox@hexbear.net 10 points 10 hours ago

Tomatoes are made to be robust and to ripen extremely slowly while reddening quickly. You get a fruit that's really firm and tasteless because it's pulled off the vine too soon, but it ships well so stores don't give a fuck. This is why canned tomatoes have a stronger flavor and are recommended more often for sauces etc, because they're cultivars bred for flavor, not structure, harvested at maximum ripeness, and locked there by canning. If you don't fuck with tomatoes because they're mid as hell, a can of San Marzanos on a pizza could change your mind.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 7 points 7 hours ago

the texture and wetness of a tomato slice are pretty of-putting but apparently most people don't give a shit about texture

[-] starik@lemmy.today 2 points 4 hours ago

They’re used in sandwiches for their wetness/texture

[-] Flyberius@hexbear.net 33 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Genuinely a nation of toddlers...

Also they've found a way for ketchup to cost about 10 times more and do 100 times more damage to the environment with its packaging and logistical inefficiencies.

Once everyone's hooked on these solid slices of sauce they'll start shrinking them too.

I FUCKING hate capitalism.

[-] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 16 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I went to look to see if this is a product designed for disabled people but as far as I can tell, this is fake. There is a company that sells dried slices of various sauces, called slice o' sauce, if that is your jazz. It does not look like it's made for the disabled, so there really is no point to its existence.

https://slice-of-sauce.com/

Unfortunately, I think it was real. It's from a shark-tank thing, but I think they closed down.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 18 points 10 hours ago

I fell for it, because it sur as shit looks like a real products americans would consume.

[-] segfault11@hexbear.net 15 points 11 hours ago

everyone is 12

[-] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 16 points 11 hours ago

that looks like something the protagonist comes across in a Cronenberg movie to foreshadow how everybody gets absorbed into the big oozing flesh mass later on but it's ok because everybody's happy as part of the big oozing flesh mass

[-] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 17 points 12 hours ago

Why? Ketchup is a sauce, I want it in a bottle I can spread on other foods. Why essentially just make it a cheese?

[-] 9to5@hexbear.net 18 points 12 hours ago

Thats not a cheese thats a slice of Ketchup. An abomination before God and everything that is good.
